Fort Knox is an open-pit gold mine located near Fairbanks, Alaska in one of the largest gold producing areas of the state. It is mined by conventional open-pit methods, with ore processed at a mill and heap leach facility. Fort Knox has one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world.

Job Description

Supervise and instruct the Mill Maintenance crew to perform in a cost-effective, safe, productive manner while protecting the environment and enhancing morale of others.

Job Responsibilities

  • Direct the activities of multi-craft plant maintenance crews to maintain the mill
  • Work with the Mill Maintenance Planner and General Foreman to plan and schedule daily work.
  • Investigate, analyze, and supervise the documentation of accidents, injuries and equipment damage.
  • Work closely with Mill Operations Supervisor to help meet production goals.
  • Monitor work areas on an ongoing basis to assure safe and cost-efficient maintenance goals.
  • Report processing: daily time cards, vacation schedules, accident reports, injury reports, disciplinary action, and accident reports.
  • Prevent needless expenditures and lost production by minimizing equipment downtime through properly executed preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Punctuality and reqular attendance is required
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state.
  • Work safely in all areas and identify potential safety hazards and work with management to correct them.
  • Work without signifigant risk of harm to self and others.
  • Perform all other duties ans requiured.


Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in repairing and maintaining industrial equipment required.
  • Necessary technical ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems in the mill.
  • Previous crew mechanic experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of mill operations.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, teach, and coach other employees.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently, with others in a team environment, and as a member of the management team.
  • May work holidays, weekends, and shift work as required.

• Must be able to communicate effectively with all crew members and all levels of management in a clear and concise manner

Reports to the Mill Maintenance General Foreman
