Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource base that was acquired by Kinross in January 2016. The mine is located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world, along the southern extension of the prolific Carlin trend. The Bald Mountain Vantage Complex Project has commenced production, and the first gold bar was poured in June 2019.

Job Description

Under the direction of the General Manager, the Health & Safety Manager will lead the health and safety programs involving standards, corporate directives, operating systems, and operating policies and procedures. The manager is responsible for administering the Health & Safety Department procedures and training programs at the site to reduce/eliminate loss and accidents, within the overall company guidelines and local regulations. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws as well as with Health, Safety & Environmental department programs and requirements.

Job Responsibilities

Lead team of Health and Safety professionals by setting strategic targets and motivate teams to accomplish corporate and personal goals.

Maintain and implement Kinross Health and Safety, and Environment policies and procedures in compliance with relevant governing laws, regulations, and industry best practices.

Develop, optimize, and maintain associated health & safety metrics as required at site and corporate level and ensure timely reporting on an established periodic basis.

Manage health & safety activities including initiation and enhancement of programs, standards, corporate directives, and operational procedures.

Administer both the Health and Safety Management System Management System ensuring the identification of risks and mitigations are in place.

Monitor ongoing compliance with all required State and Federal regulations and Kinross Standards.

Advise management on all government regulations that pertain to health & safety and recommend necessary actions to obtain compliance.

Conduct regular performance reviews and assessments to ensure that facility standards and operational areas comply with governmental regulations and corporate policy.

Oversee or lead serious incident and near-miss investigations and corrective actions, and respond to the scene where necessary.

Ensure continuous improvement of health & safety policies and procedures.

Conduct performance reviews and administer professional development of department staff.

Prepare and administer the department budget in a fiscally sound manner.

Consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance.

Holds self and direct reports accountable for actions.

Ability to work closely with Regional and Corporate safety representatives.

Perform other duties as required.

Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science Degree in a related field or a minimum of 10 years of mining experience preferred.

Previous mining industry experience required.

5 years of large mine safety experience preferred.

Demonstrated experience managing work teams to achieve defined objectives.
