Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. In 2016, the site poured its seven millionth ounce of gold, 20 years into its mine life. The initial Gilmore Expansion Project is expected to extend mine life to 2030.

Job Description

Assist with the implementation of programs and procedures to ensure environmental compliance for Fairbanks Gold Mining, Inc. Assist with the development of environmental management plans, permit applications, monitoring plans, and waste management plans. Responsible for environmental programs/projects as assigned.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist personnel with water balance at the Fort Knox Mine and applicable sites.
  • Develop, revise, and update environmental management plans, monitoring plans, reports, and other environmental documents as required by permits and for management of environmental programs in accordance with the requirements of Fairbanks Gold Mining, Inc. and the corporate office.
  • Provide environmental management support for multi-media environmental programs including Fort Knox's air, water, storm water, hazardous and solid waste, community right-to-know, reclamation, and wetlands programs.
  • Provide guidance to technicians in performing environmental monitoring and sampling in accordance with approved permits, monitoring plans, and QA/QC manuals to assure proper procedures are adhered to.
  • Develop strong working relationships with agency personnel.
  • Manage or assist with environmental studies and projects conducted at all sites.
  • Participate in development and implementation of plans and studies for permitting new projects.
  • Assist with the training of site personnel in environmental compliance issues.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance are required.
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
  • Work safely in all areas, identify potential safety hazards, and work with management to correct them.
  • Maintain accurate records and files.
  • Consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Perform other duties as required.


  • Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering. Preferably environmental, civil, or mining.
  • Two to three years of related environmental work experience.
  • Strong background in environmental engineering or sciences.
  • Ability to develop drawings required for environmental documents (AutoCAD, GIS, and PowerPoint).
  • Basic knowledge of all phases of mining and milling operations as well as environmental monitoring and sampling.
  • Working knowledge of the provisions of environmental permitting and regulations.
  • Ability to work well with the mine site personnel in various departments and positions throughout the site.
  • Working knowledge and skills with a P.C. utilizing work processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Experience in managing personnel in varying and unrelated fields.

  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
