Job Description

Reporting to the Vice-President, Global BF Exploration, this role is key to Kinross' business growth goals in North America. Focused on discovery of open pit and underground reserves at Kinross' mines and projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • To develop and implement strategies that grow the company's gold resources through brownfields exploration around existing mine sites and projects in North America
  • To develop and implement business practises and policies in exploration which are aligned with the organization's regional and corporate strategies.
  • To lead, develop and maintain a team of exploration technical professionals sufficiently competent and skilled to further the objectives and strategies set by the region and supported by Kinross.
  • Interact with the Senior Vice Operation (Americas),, Mine General Managers and Projects Management to ensure that effective programs are undertaken, which are directed at meeting the needs of the mine sites.
  • Manage exploration teams and oversee their professional development.
  • To develop succession plans within the regional exploration group that encourages the transfer of skills and experience so that during your tenure a successor is developed for your own position.
  • Responsibility for framing and managing budget, upholding Kinross values, continuous safety improvement and reporting results as required, for North America exploration.
  • Responsible for meeting high environmental standards in exploration and receiving all necessary permits and approvals before commencing work.
  • Ensure a high level of data quality, security and QA/QC.
  • Liaise with the Regional Land Management team to address any land title security, work, reporting and payment commitments on exploration land.


Education and Experience

Education
• Four year BSc degree in Geology
• Post-graduate degree (e.g., Masters in Economic Geology) preferred

Experience
  • 15 years or greater of related work experience
  • Successful background leading diverse teams in minerals exploration.
  • Previous success in adding value to the business through technical and economic assessment of early- to advanced-stage exploration targets in brownfield environments.

• Track record of identifying opportunities, securing new projects, negotiating agreements, and designing and implementing exploration programs
• Effective communicator orally and written, and to all levels of stakeholders
• An understanding of a wide variety of precious metals deposits styles
• A successful track record in creative thinking, leading to the development of robust exploration targets
• Must be field-oriented and well-motivated
• Have a realistic approach to economic targets using economic models in exploration
