The Kinross Corporate Head Office is located in downtown Toronto and supports Kinross' operations and projects worldwide. Corporate functions include Finance, Procurement, Health & Safety, Human Resources, IT, Investor Relations, Exploration, Geology and Mine Planning, among others.

Job Description

To support Kinross' tailings and dam safety program, including analysis of data and reports on tailings and hydro dam design and performance; implementation and improvement of corporate level reporting; and guidance to sites on process improvement, compliance with Kinross standards and implementing action plans.

Job Responsibilities

• Review site procedures and practices to ensure compliance with the Kinross Tailings and Dam Safety Standard, and assist sites in ongoing implementation of the Standard.
• Support the Kinross TSF and Dam Safety Scorecard process to help ensure that the Scorecards capture the right elements, have clear and measurable criteria, and that actions are implemented to correct deficiencies.
• Assist sites as needed in review of documents from site Engineers-of-Record to help formulate questions areas for further follow-up.
• Participation in site reviews related to tailings.
• Support sites in developing and implementing action plans from external review recommendations.
• Participation as a member of the Safety and Sustainability team.
• Participate in due diligence reviews and compilation of engineering studies.
• Review site Operations, Maintenance and Surveillance (OMS) Manuals, and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for potential improvement areas and to ensure consistency with other sites where appropriate.
• Prepare Terms of Reference and performance evaluation criteria for consultant selection, and assist in the management of external consultants for tailings and dam safety.
• Participation in engineering risk assessments and other risk assessments related to tailings facilities.

Education and Experience

Education
• Bachelor of Science in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological or Mining Engineering is required.
• Eligible for registration as a P.Eng.

Experience
• Background in geotechnical site investigation, analysis and design.
• 5 to 8 years of geotechnical and/or mining experience in mine operations or with a consulting company.

Skills

• Familiarity with geotechnical modelling software.
• Ability and willingness to travel and work internationally.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Team player with a strong inclination towards developing cooperative solutions.
• Aptitude to effectively manage multiple tasks and changing priorities, often under pressure and within time constraints.
• Understanding of Kinross processes a definite asset.
