Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. In 2016, the site poured its seven millionth ounce of gold, 20 years into its mine life. The initial Gilmore Expansion Project is expected to extend mine life to 2030.

Job Description

Provides general labor and support for the mine operations drilling and blast deprtments; performs ground/facility maintenance, equipment/machine checks; basic use of hand tools and small machinery.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support and work under the direction of the Senior Drill Technician.
  • Responsible for providing support to the pit blasthole drills, including; topping off drills with water (2-x per shift), retrieving blasthole samples from the drill pattern (2-3x per shift), restocking drills with supplies and walking drill patterns and taping drill holes to identify re-drills and establishing wet hole count.
  • Responsible for washing, sharpening and painting drill bits using the bit-grinding machine.
  • Responsible for ordering and re-stocking the drill tech bay and drill truck with supplies from the warehouse
  • Assists with Shop clean up and organization.
  • Provides occasional labor support to the Pit Supervisors
  • Punctuality and regular attendance required.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, confidentiality and environmental policies.
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state
  • Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.


  • Education and Experience

    Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
  • Experience in building, site and shop maintenance and cleanup preferred.
  • Ability to work without constant, direct supervision
  • Involves lifting and moving various materials in weights up to 76 or more pounds.
  • Must have solid verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read and understand repair manuals and prints.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlines in the attached physical demands sheets.
  • Progression through the wage scale is contingent upon satisfactory completion of attached checklists.
