Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. The Round Mountain Phase W Project is now in production, with first gold poured in May 2019.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Senior Geologist, is responsible for mine geology and/or exploration duties, as required while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross' values .

Job Responsibilities

  • Ore control.
  • Structural and geologic mapping and modelling.
  • Geologic sampling.
  • Field supervision of drilling/sampling programs.
  • Logging drill core and cuttings.
  • Database management.
  • Performs work assignments in a timely manner.
  • Represents the company with contractors.
  • Management of the RMGC Environmental Health and Safety Management system in his/her areas of responsibility.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
  • Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
  • Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Works without risk or harm to self and others.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance required.
  • Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned by supervisor.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in geologic sciences is required.
  • Candidates should have minimum of 2 years of experience mine and/or exploration geology.


  • Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • General understanding of mining operations, ore processing and drilling techniques.
  • Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software. Experience with mining, geological modelling or GIS software an asset.
  • Strong verbal, written and analytical skills, and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to work independently, but also as a member of the team.
  • Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational, and technical writing skills.
  • Knowledgeable in geology skills, such as mineralization environments, rock and alteration characterization, geologic and structural mapping.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
  • Requires valid driver's license.
