Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach.

Job Description

Work as part of a team to provide complete environmental services for a mining operation and ancillary facilities. Under the direction of a Sr. Environmental Engineer, ensures that sampling, monitoring, inspections, and data management are conducted in accordance with company requirements and in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross' values.

Job Responsibilities

  • Effectively communicate with site personnel to maximize informational exchange and environmental compliance.
  • Conduct all activities in compliance with company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality, and code of conduct.
  • Primary responsibility for all aspects of environmental sampling and monitoring, including, but not limited to:
    • Conduct safe, efficient, reliable and accurate sampling and monitoring
    • Documentation, data entry, and reporting
    • Water management programs, including wells, discharge and other water systems
    • Drinking water operation
    • Air quality, waste management, spill prevention, wildlife protection, Cyanide Code programs.
    • Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
  • Conduct regular inspections of company operations to ensure regulatory and permit compliance.
  • Ensure that departmental and company goals are achieved by participating in short and long-range planning activities.
  • Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
  • Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Works without risk or harm to self and others.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance required.
  • Performs other related functions as assigned by supervisor.


Education and Experience

  • College degree desired but not required.
  • Previous experience performing monitoring and sampling preferred.
  • General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.


Skills

  • Mathematical knowledge and ability at an algebraic level.
  • Moderate degree of mechanical ability and troubleshooting skills (e.g. determine the cause of equipment malfunction and conduct minor repairs using hand tools or items such as battery replacement).
  • Able to spend a significant portion of workday outside in the field in a production environment and work overtime as needed.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. over short distances.
  • Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills. Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills. Ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Working knowledge with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  • Ability to work independently and also as a member of the environmental team.
  • Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
  • Valid Nevada driver's license (or ability and intent to obtain).


Reporting Relationships

  • Works under the direct supervision of the Senior Environmental Engineer.
