Job Description

Provides analytical and project management support and for various Value Assurance and Operations Strategy programs and projects in a wide range of disciplines including, but not limited to Projects, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and Technical Services. Leads manage and coordinates high-priority global and site support projects and business cases. Contributes to each project by combining experience and business judgment, performing financial and other analysis, developing and delivering senior-level communications materials, and performing project management activities.

Job Responsibilities

1. Provides analytical and project management support for various Operations Strategy and Project Value Assurance programs and projects, from broader cross-site improvement programs to high-priority individual site support projects
  • Generally speaking, supports Kinross and its sites and projects in making strategic decisions through analysis, business case development, modeling and impactful communication
  • With limited instruction and guidance, performs error-free and insightful analysis, financial or otherwise, that supports site, cross-site or Corporate projects
  • Working with project directors, project team members, contractors and corporate and regional senior management, assist in developing and managing the execution of initiatives to assist in the successful delivery of Kinross capital projects
  • Applies understanding of key business drivers to build and maintain financial models, which will often support multi-million dollar decisions (if not 10s or 100s-of-millions of dollars). Pressure-tests others' models and analysis
  • Supports broader corporate global programs outside of own area, such as Working Capital, the Kinross Way for Supply Chain and Maintenance, etc. This includes the development of reporting tools, supporting site action plans, etc.
  • Supports the analysis and preparation of communication materials for capital requests, Strategic Business Cases, and the Strategic Business Planning process in general
  • Performs analysis and coordination on technical and financial due diligence activities for Mergers and Acquisitions

2. Other, general support as required
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience
  • Manages the flow of information between the sites. Drives and facilitates discussions around best practices
  • Analyzes and interprets data (e.g. operating metrics like tons hauled, equipment efficiency, downtime due to maintenance, operating constraints and suboptimal performance)
  • Responds to a variety of internal and/or external requests, many of which will not be standard and will require an advanced problem-solving approach.
  • Prepares straightforward communication materials, manuals, and other written materials related to evaluations, technical issues, programs, or systems
  • Prepare financial analysis and interpretations necessary for complex decisions on capital investment, customer bid, and proposals, pricing, and other financial or manufacturing related issues

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, accounting or finance or a related field. Additional specialized education, such as CFA progression or masters level degree or equivalent would be beneficial but is not required

  • 5 to 8 years experience in the mining industry or another natural resource industry and/or a major consultancy
  • Experience in technical (e.g. mining or project-related) or Management consulting would be a major asset
  • Experience with and exposure to financial and strategic modeling in an asset-intensive industry (preferrably mining)
  • Expert level skills in Excel: ability to build financial models and perform analysis to pinpointopportunities for improvement
  • Experience in working with and/or leading cross-functional teams to solve complex business problems, including playing a key role in implementation of identified solutions and initiatives
  • Proficiency with Powerpoint
  • Working knowledge of a second language an asset, preferably Spanish but also Portuguese, French or Russian


  • Strong technical, operational and financial analytical capabilities
  • Highly collaborative work style in working with highly skilled corporate, regional and mine site staff (both technical and financial) using influence skills rather than formal reporting authority
  • Flexible, fast learner that can come up to speed on a problem in an unfamiliar area to startt adding value quickly
  • Ability to handle significant variations in workload in a fast-paced environment
  • Explains and presents complex information in a straightforward way, by developing and delivering communications materials for sites and senior executives, up to the CTO and SLT level
  • Well organized, works well independantly and in team settings
  • Conversational French, Spanish, Portuguese or Russian is an asset, but not a requirement
  • Ability to function within the following travel requirements; frequent travel to remote mine sites in Mauritania, Ghana, Chile, Brazil, Nevada, Washington State, Alaska and Far East Russia. THe expectations is that the role could require from 1-2 weeks of travel out of every 4 weeks
