Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. In 2016, the site poured its seven millionth ounce of gold, 20 years into its mine life. The initial Gilmore Expansion Project is expected to extend mine life to 2030.

Job Description

Develop mineral reserve and resource models for estimating reserves and resources. Compile and interpret geologic and assay data to generate ore-waste boundaries and facilitate efficient active mine operations. Responsible for mentoring and/or supervising mine geologists. Assist other senior geologists with integrating geological data into grade control programs. Under the direction of the Chief Geologist, responsible for mine geology and/or exploration duties as required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Monitor and report on QA/QC programs. Perform database compilations and validation for blast hole and exploration drill datasets on a regular basis.
  • Interpret geologic data to develop models in collaboration with mine and exploration geologists.
  • Construct and maintain reserve and resource models.
  • Conduct or review periodic reconciliation comparison between models and mine production.
  • Mentor and/or directly supervise mine geologists.
  • Communicate with and assist Mine Planning, Metallurgical, and Mine Operations staff with geologic information to ensure efficient mining and processing operations.
  • Assist Exploration team with drill planning and modeling support.
  • Maintain accurate records and files.
  • Demonstrate consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
  • Work safely in all areas and identify potential safety hazards and work with management to correct them. Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
  • Perform other duties as required by Chief Geologist.


Education and Experience

  • Employee must possess advanced technical skills in geology and have knowledge of ore deposit modeling .
  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in geology, geological engineering, or related field is required.
  • Minimum of five years experience as a mine or exploration geologist with a minimum of one year experience with geologic modeling or resource modeling. Supervisory experience in open-pit operations preferred. Skill or familiarity with field geologic mapping preferred.
  • Must have a sound background in sampling theory for gold and assay techniques.
  • Skill with computers utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Skill in 3D modeling software. Knowledge or skill with acQuire, Leapfrog, MineSight, and Vulcan software preferred. Python or other coding language skill preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to safely drive in active mining traffic.
  • Must have solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and with others in a team environment.
