Job Description

Reporting to the Managing (statutory) Directors of the Company, the Director, Tax - Africa will be involved in multi-disciplinary matters with the aim of supporting international finance and tax aspects; operations and legal for the Africa region and involved in managing a team of finance and tax professionals for the Africa Region to ensure that the objectives of the Company are met.

Job Responsibilities

Africa Region
  • Define and implement tax strategy for the Africa region, with a focus on cash and governance
  • Provide leadership to, mentor and develop the Africa finance and tax team and establish a clear succession plan
  • Review of statutory accounting, managing their preparation to completion, including tax returns
  • Review of local and consolidated financial tax reporting for current income and deferred taxes, as well as UTPs
  • Design, test and implement procedures for compliance purpose;
  • Management of the internal compliance resources and external resources (lawyers, accountants, tax consultants)
  • General support to Operations and Project related to procurement (contracts, discussion with vendors, customs), and applicable taxes, including income tax, withholding taxes and VAT
  • Engage in discussions with authorities regarding tax & customs, and any other relevant matters
  • Prepare strategy and defense in tax audit and litigation for the Company and its subsidiaries
  • Provide training to relevant disciplines to raise technical skills and awareness of financial and tax requirements
  • Support implementation of finance projects
  • Manage transfer pricing strategy and compliance
  • Tax planning and analysis in respect of the annual budgeting and forecasting process

International
  • Take on international projects at the direction of the Managing (statutory) Directors of the Company, including M&A, financing and other structuring projects
  • Support Finance, Legal and Operations of the Company's subsidiaries in other international areas, as requested
  • Work with the Managing Directors of The Hague office as part of an International Tax and Finance team which will support the activities of or expansion of the office into certain areas such as Gold Sales and Supply Chain responsibilities
  • Expand expertise in broad range of international finance and tax matters and participate in developmental activities such as international tax conferences


Education and Experience

Either a legal degree and(or) professional accounting designation with a specialization in Resource International Taxation.
Some mining or resource related experience dealing with African countries.
Over 10 years of experience in corporate income tax.
Proficiency in Microsoft office products including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel as well as using tax research software.
Fluent in English and French. If not fluent in French some level of proficiency in French is necessary to deal with West African countries, therefore a commitment to take additional French courses to achieve French business language competency.
