Job Description

Lead the execution of the long-term strategy for department functions. Formulates short- and intermediate-term business plans, ensuring alignment with the organization's overall strategy. Ensure continued growth of department to maximize operational efficiencies, profitability, and to cultivate exceptional stakeholder and employee satisfaction.

Job Responsibilities

• Develop, execute, and ensure short- and intermediate-term succession management strategies support the effectiveness of the maintenance function; ensure strategies are concretely linked to the organization's long-term strategy.
• Monitor, analyze, and implement changes to ensure maintenance is preventative, predictive, and proactive.
• Formulate the annual operating and capital budgets for the maintenance function consistent with the established financial guidelines and business planning process.
• Identify strategies and key performance goals and act as an advisor to direct reports; work to overcome challenges and barriers and minimize risk.
• Set performance targets and measure, monitor, and manage overall performance of the maintenance function and direct reports.
• Identify succession role requirements and high potential talent, and actively develop key talent.
• Supervise multi-craft supervisors and maintain acceptable equipment availabilities in a safe manner to meet the company's production goals.
• Manage and evaluate the job performance of the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor(s) concerning safety, production, mechanical / electrical training and development, and supervisory skills.
• Work closely with the Mine Maintenance Planner to schedule equipment repairs and replacement.
• Maintain accurate records and files concerning all facets of mine maintenance including safety meetings, attendance, vacation, scheduling, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, and accidents.
• Oversee safety compliance and make certain all maintenance programs or activities are in accordance with corporate, site, and MSHA safety regulations.
• Review documentation of accidents, injuries, and equipment damage and recommend preventative strategies as necessary.
• Possess knowledge of all phases of mobile equipment including critical components and change-out hours.
• Prepare monthly summaries of maintenance activities and individual reports as required. Maintain a daily log.
• Oversee the productivity, performance standards, and cost controls of the Mobile Maintenance Department.
• Consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance.
• Responsible for conducting performance evaluations, recommending promotions, and carrying out corrective actions as needed.
• Review documentation of accidents, injuries, and equipment damage and recommend prevention strategies as necessary.
• Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
• Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
• Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
• Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state.
• Work safely in all areas, identify potential safety hazards, and work with management to correct them.
• Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
• Perform other duties as required.

Education and Experience

Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform mathematical calculations, and keep records.
  • Electrical or Mechanical trade certificate equivalent with extensive international experience in Heavy Equipment Maintenance
  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and advantage

Experience
  • Five or more years of international experience of working in a Supervisory or Leadership Role in an earthmoving/mining workshop/department
  • Minimum 15 years of international mining/dealer experience
  • Previous Superintendent experience an advantage in an international environment


Skills

  • Excellent understanding of contract maintenance, vendor, and contractor warranties.
  • Complete understanding of mine and maintenance operations (which usually requires seven to ten years' experience).
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
  • Good working knowledge and skill with a P.C. utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Fluent English a must, French and or Arabic an advantage
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
  • May work holidays, shift work, and weekends.


Relocation

  • A full relocation to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is required for this role.
