Job Description

Provide mine planning and technical support for operations and development activities working independently or under limited supervision in one or more of the following areas: mine planning, reserve calculations, environmental engineering, project engineering, regulatory compliance and/or direction of outside consultants and contractors. Knowledge of engineering techniques as they apply to ore body evaluation and mine operations is required

Job Responsibilities

  • Strategic mine planning and budgeting.
  • Prepare engineering studies aiding resource estimates for life of mine planning purposes.
  • Supports corporate feasibility study efforts and technical due diligence including preparation of open pit and underground mine designs, costs and schedules.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams and consider the business impact of decisions on diverse groups; influence others to achieve project goals often without direct authority.
  • Appraise mining methods, processing methods, operating cost, capital spending, production schedules, dilution and ore loss.
  • Identify key engineering and mining success factors and issues that could impact the economic viability of mine plans and mine design.
  • Design and develop processes, practices and methodologies in engineering and ensure alignment with the organization's long-term strategy.
  • Initiate and undertake projects to optimize performance within engineering and to ensure adherence to industry regulations and organizational standards.
  • Advise on a variety of internal and / or external requests
  • Contribute to the development of policies and practices
  • Maintains excellent rapport with external stakeholders
  • Monitor costs and implement approved recommendations for maximizing operational efficiencies
  • Analyzes information and prepares technical documents to support decision making; present recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders
  • Communicate information related to engineering and mentor others
  • Provide information on operating standards, compliance requirements and policies to key stakeholders; recognized as an internal expert in area of expertise and troubleshoots unusual or complex issues


Education and Experience

Education
  • Bachelor of Science in geology, mining engineering or a related field.
  • Eligible for registration as a professional engineer or professional designation in appropriate area of expertise


Experience
  • 4 - 8 years of related work experience
  • Basic knowledge of all phases of mining and milling operations
  • Experience with strategic planning and budgeting in the mining industry
  • Knowledge of engineering techniques as they apply to ore body evaluation and mine operations


Skills

  • Level of proficiency with mine planning software systems, preferably Minesight, Vulcan, Surpac, MineMax Scheduler, and NPVscheduler. Exhibit an interest aptitude for learning these systems.
  • Level of proficiency in spreadsheet based cash flow analysis.
  • Well-developed technical report writing and presentation skills.
  • Very strong communications skills. Team player with a strong inclination towards developing cooperative solutions.
  • Ability to perform financial analysis in a mining environment.
  • Ability to travel (approximately 10-30%)-domestic as well as international
