Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Field Maintenance Supervisor, the Mechanic is responsible for the general mechanical maintenance of blast hole drills, electric & hydraulic shovels while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross' values.

Job Responsibilities

1. Obey all MSHA and RMGC safety rules.
2. Accurately diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical problems on heavy equipment.
3. Make repairs in a timely fashion in order to get the job done and reduce downtime.
4. Order parts accurately, and complete all necessary paperwork involved.
5. Works with Maintenance Personnel to repair mining equipment with the least amount of machinery downtime possible to effectively repair the equipment.
6. Interpret data output with monitoring systems on CAT equipment.
7. Performs all work assigned to him in a safe, well managed manner and assures that the area is safe for mechanics and other employees to work.
8. Returns well-documented and accurately completed work orders in a timely manner.
9. Keeps in active communication with the Maintenance Supervisor, Dispatch and other crews to coordinate work and provide updates on work in progress.
10. Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
11. Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
12. Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
13. Works without risk or harm to self and others.
14. Punctuality and regular attendance required.
15. Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
16. Willing to train others as directed by supervision
17. Performs other related functions as assigned by supervisor.

Education and Experience

1. Should have strong mechanical aptitude, and knowledge of all machinery under his/her maintenance.
2. Able to read and understand hydraulic and electrical schematics.
3. Be familiar with engine and power train design and function.
4. Must have a working knowledge of all tools and equipment necessary to work in the Maintenance department.
5. Proficient in the JDE system preferred.
6. Must be able to solve problems effectively in a variety of areas, including mechanical issues.
7. Ability to perform basic welding and cutting.
8. Ability to operate various equipment including forklifts and service trucks.
9. Ability to work in all weather conditions.
10. Diesel Technician's Degree preferred.

11. Must come through the ALPM Shop progression or equivalent experience.
12. Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
13. General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
14. Basic computer skills.
15. Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
16. Ability to work independently and also as a member of the team.
17. Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
18. Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
19. Requires valid driver's license.

Compensation Data

  • Kinross offers all full time employees a comprehensive benefit package including; Medical, dental and vision insurance. We also offer a 5% Geographic allowance, generous 401K program (instant vesting) and participation in an employee stock purchase program.
  • All maintenance positions include an annual clothing and tool allowance.
  • Wages are based upon experience ($34.59 - $41.17)
