Job Description

Kinross is looking for a full-time Senior Exploration geologist to join the brownfields exploration team at Round Mountain. Reporting to the Exploration Manager, you will play a key role discovering and delineating resources in the Round Mountain district, by developing targets, designing programs, and helping to execute on a variety of projects from early to advanced stages, with the ultimate goal of delivering ounces to sustain long-term production at an operation which has provided high-quality, high-paying jobs to central Nevada for over 45 years. This is an ideal role for an experienced project geologist looking to take on larger projects and dive into a senior technical role with a major company where you'll receive exposure to management-track decision making and planning. Strong candidates will have a strong background in both geology fundamentals (structure, stratigraphy, mineralogy) and economic geology (hydrothermal geochemistry, metalllogeny of the Western Cordillera), as well as experience working with larger drill programs and exploration teams.
The role is based at the Round Mountain mine site, with several schedule options available depending on experience and demonstrated ability to complete work. Located at the base of the towering, Toiyabe and Toquima ranges, Round Mountain is a hidden gem in the Basin and Range, and your work here will have a direct positive impact on a close-knit community that is truly unique and special in the state of Nevada.

Job Responsibilities

• Conduct field surface/underground geological mapping and sampling
• Data management, designing and improving existing workflows, particularly with regards to core drilling.
• Geologic/structural modelling and interpretation in 2D and 3D space
• Operates with a high degree of autonomy to analyze diverse geologic data sets, develop targets, design and present programs, and execute exploration work, from early stage reconnaissance to advanced drilling.
• Write detailed technical reports, create figures, and present data to a variety of audiences.
• Supervise and develop junior employees, work with site collaborators, and oversee contractors
• Take part in critical risk management, working with the team, site and contractors to develop a pro-active, forward-looking safety culture.

Education and Experience

• BS or BA degree in Geology or Geosciences. MS degree with thesis preferred, as is experience working in volcanic environments and epithermal Au-Ag systems.
• Broad-based experience in greenfields/brownfields exploration with at least 5 years working as a hard-rock geologist in metals exploration. Underground experience a plus.
• Strong understanding of the non-fuel mineral exploration process and best practices for core/RC drilling, in both greenfields and near-mine environments.
• Strong written communication and presentation skills.
• Good interpersonal skills and willingness to consider alternative hypothesis and perspective.
• Demonstrated ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy, stay organized and effectively manage data in a dynamic work environment.
• Proficient with PC office applications, GIS, and database software.
• Experience with 3D modeling software (Leapfrog, Vulcan, Micromine, or similar) to display data, plan drillholes, and perform geologic modeling.
• Be authorized, or able to be authorized, to work in the United States on a full time basis.

Skills

 Previous experience in the mining industry
 Previous experience overseeing geological activities in Nevada is preferred

 Good interpersonal skills required
