Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. Fort Knox celebrated its 25-year anniversary in 2021, and has produced over 8.5 million ounces since it began operation. In 2020, Kinross acquired Manh Choh - a project expected to commence production in 2024 and process ore at Fort Knox.

Fort Knox prioritizes being a strong contributor to the State and local communities, and since 2001, has helped support more than 300 community partners and has contributed more than US$25 million to the Alaska Mental Health Trust.

Job Description

The incumbent is responsible for the installation and maintenance of the Heap Leach Cells. While also being able to troubleshoot, diagnosis, and repair all equipment needed to keep the Heap Leach process up and running. They must comply with all company safety regulations, operation requirements, and efficiency levels while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross' values.

Job Responsibilities

1. Fuse HDPE pipe and construct pipelines using appropriate hardware.
2. Performs equipment walk around, inspects and operates equipment including but not limited to 966 Loaders and D6 Dozers.
3. Troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of all related Heap Leach equipment.
4. Install and replace pumps as necessary
5. Punctuality and regular attendance are required.
6. Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
7. Possession of a valid driver license issued by the state.
8. Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
9. Compliance with all company policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Employee must have sufficient education to read and write, perform simple mathematics, and maintain neat and accurate records.


Skills

  • Experience in HDPE fusing is preferred.
  • Experience operating equipment such as loaders, small excavators and dozers is preferred.
  • Ability to work without constant, direct supervision.
  • Involves lifting and moving various materials in weights up to 50 or more pounds, climbing up and down stairs, and working in an outdoors environment.
  • Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions required.
  • Must have solid verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read and understand repair manuals.
  • Must be available to work holidays and weekends.

    Fort Knox is looking for a worker to become a member of a crew whose primary duty is to irrigate the leach pad and perform needed maintenance on the heap circuit. This includes installing all needed piping for the pads, performing daily pms and routes on all Heap Leach Circuits and pads along with being able to perform needed maintenance on all pumps and other equipment in the process. Prior experience with running dozers, loaders, and any HDPE pipe fusing is a plus, but not required.
