Our client is is a major gold producer with operating mines in the Americas and Africa, and a number of significant project and exploration sites worldwide. They're recently acquired a greenfield, large-scale precious metals deposit with the potential for significant open pit and underground operations in northern Ontario. They're recruiting for a Director of Project Engineering to oversee the project's infrastructure, processing facilities and operations readiness functions. This role will be based in Toronto, with periodic travel to their site outside Kenora, ON.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction for, and day-to-day oversight of, the Project engineering team.
  • Ensure compliance with all appropriate national technical and environmental regulations and standards, as well as all industry best practices
  • Develop a Quality-in-design plan
  • Set technical standards
  • Develop project-specific design criteria and ensure all are fit-for-purpose.
  • Direct and adjudicate technical trade-off-studies, generally on a life-cycle-cost basis
  • Provide data to planners, cost estimators and the permitting and environmental team
  • Provide technical support in the selection of EPCM companies and oversight of all third-party engineering work, controlling and approving scope changes and ensure uniformity in all engineering deliverables
  • Provide strategic direction for, and day-to-day oversight of, the engineering work of the various engineering firms.

Qualifications

  • Significant previous experience in mining projects, including a good understanding of mining and ore processing equipment.
  • +15 years of related work experience, ideally with time spent in designing and building greenfield open pit and underground projects, particularly in Northern Canada (Ontario or Quebec would be an advantage).
  • Experience in supervising field construction work, managing third-party engineering resources, and the development of PFS, FS studies.
  • Experience with supporting permitting activities related to complex projects, particularly in Canada.
  • Extensive experience in managing engineering teams for large projects, including development and management of scopes of work, schedules, and budgets as well as co-ordination of different engineering disciplines, and working with engineering consultants, vendors, contractors and other stakeholders.
  • Professional Engineering designation and Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical or civil)
  • Exposure to various engineering disciplines and experience leading multi-discipline technical teams.
  • Experience with sizing, selection, engineering, and installation of key mechanical components of ore processing plants.
  • Experience with EPCM, EPC and other project execution models, preferably on both sides (owner and EPCM/EPC);
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of large multi-disciplinary teams.
