Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About The Role

Schedule: 5/2, 4/3 – 9 hour days

Position Reports To: Senior Environmental Specialist

Position Overview

As a member of the New Gold Rainy River team, the Environmental Coordinator demonstrates commitment and compliance with company Health & Safety, Environment and Social Responsibility policies and procedures. They also take action to ensure that unsafe practices or non-compliant behaviors do not occur.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assume the role of Quality Controller for the Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Conduct inspections and audits related to quality control and quality assurance on all disciplines found in the EMS
  • Provide guidance and constructive feedback to all departments on their environmental management performance with a view to continual improvement
  • Work with operations teams to integrate environmental commitments and legislated requirements into work practices and standard operating procedures
  • Support for environmental audits both external and internal.
  • Responsible for completion and submission of various Government Agency reports such as NPRI, GHG and GRI.
  • Responsible for select Corporate reports and support.
  • Work as a team player to support Environmental Department as well as sitewide departments
  • Responsible for Environment requisitions and invoicing in Finance program SAP.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned


Qualifications
  • Environmental science or applied science degree
  • Demonstrate minimum 3-5 years of experience on mining or construction projects, experience in Ontario is an asset
  • Experience with environmental management systems
  • Ability to liaise and work with mill and mine operations, site engineering teams, procurement team, contractors and operations departments to integrate environmental requirements
  • Familiar with current Ontario environmental regulations and guidelines related to the environment including waste and water management and metal mining effluent regulations
  • Familiar with ISO 14001 requirements
  • Attentive to details
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently while being a self-starter with superior interpersonal, teamwork, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft office programs (Excel, Outlook and word), GIS Imagery, INX and SAP software programs.
