Our two-year Australian graduate program offers a diverse and unique learning journey, with the ability to further enhance your passion for mining across our Australian operations, Cadia, New South Wales and Telfer, Western Australia. A career in the resources industry offers a commitment to sustainable work practices, and the chance work with cutting edge digital innovation and technology.

As a graduate, you will commence the program in January 2022 and be required to rotate in 12 months and gain experience across both of our Australian operations:
  • Telfer (FIFO Shift Work Rotation) - Located in the Great Sandy Desert in the East Pilbara Region of WA, Telfer is a short two-hour flight form Perth. Working as a fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) operation, comprising of open pit and underground, you'll be working an 8 days on, 6 days off lifestyle. While at site Telfer offers a diverse range of recreational activities including a gym, swimming pool, driving range, movie room and refurbished communal eatery.


  • Cadia (Residential Monday to Friday Rotation) - Located three hours' drive from Sydney, NSW, our Cadia operations are a short 25-minute drive outside of the regional centre of Orange. Offering a unique residential mining lifestyle, Cadia is exposed to first class mining techniques and methods including the development of Australia's largest block cave and the undercutless mining technique.


Note: Some disciplines may require a rotation to our Corporate Head Office in Melbourne, Victoria or other regional areas within Australia.

About the (Data Science) Squad

As part of the Data Science team, you will use data to give valuable insights to the business areas such as; operations, maintenance, exploration, and more. Initially placed at the Telfer (WA), you will find yourself working closely with Metallurgists and other engineers on site as well as the platform team at our head office. As part of this placement, some of the valuable experiences you will gain are:
  • Statistical Analysis, building of machine learning and deep learning models
  • Use of text analytics and computer vision
  • Team members are embedded within operational teams throughout the organisation
  • Maintaining a strong, collaborative connection with data science cohorts
  • Hosting frequent sessions including technical training sessions, practice presentations to develop the group to be comfortable presenting to the business.

This provides a good foundation and hands on experience for future data science work in mining, and also provides broad experience applying data science tools to deliver value to the business. A key focus of the program is around the softer skills including presenting to the business, stakeholder engagement as well as technical skills.

We are seeking applications from recent, or soon-to-be graduates (course completion in either 2020, 2021 and mid 2022) with a relevant tertiary qualification in:
  • Information Technology
  • Computer Science
  • Software Engineering
  • Data &/Or Analytics
  • Other Engineering Degree with exposure to a programming language and an interest in data science.


To be successful in this role, you have a true passion for data and problem solving. You understand the value it adds in supporting transformation within the mining industry. You are confident in working independently (with support), but also thrive in a collaborative team environment.
