Newcrest is one of the world's largest gold mining companies. As a global business, we aim to create a diverse and inclusive environment where everyone feels safe, valued and supported to bring their whole unique self to work.

We recognise that our different backgrounds and perspectives help us find better ways to solve problems; attract and retain the best people; explore, develop and produce more gold safely and profitably; and help make Newcrest a better place to work.

At Newcrest, we hold core values that focus on caring about people, working together, and achieving a high-performance culture through innovation and problem-solving.

Operations near and far

We are proud to be the largest gold producer listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. From our Head Office in Melbourne, we work closely with our operations both local and global to safely operate and grow. Based on St Kilda Road, our Melbourne Head Office is easily accessible by public transport or car, with discounted parking available, and located across the road from Albert Park Lake. Experience a lunch break around the lake or have access to our on-site gym facilities, with local eateries only a short walk from the office.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking an accomplished and resilient Principal Occupational Hygiene Advisor to join our People Health & Safety team at our Melbourne site, to provide specialist advice and governance to identify, assess control and review occupational hygiene risks within the workplace.

Reporting to the Group Manager of Health and Safety, this challenging yet rewarding opportunity will see you utilise your expertise towards the protection and promotion of workers' health, and contribution to a safe and sustainable workforce.

The diverse operations across the site and tasks of varying complexity will offer a multitude of challenges where no two days will be the same.

Other key deliverables of the role include:
  • Leading and maintaining the Group Health and Hygiene Management Plan.
  • Developing and maintaining the Group-wide framework for occupational hygiene, including the design and delivery of the strategies, frameworks, policies, and practices.
  • Identify global occupational hygiene practices and emerging trends and provide strategic direction and advice across the organisation, including to the Executive Committee, Board, and Board committees.
  • Providing subject matter expertise to Sites and Central Functions, including supporting site-based personnel to identify and assess occupational hygiene programs within the workplace.
  • Co-designing and maintaining the Group-level occupational hygiene annual and three/five-yearly plans.
  • Designing and executing Group-wide occupational hygiene communications

To succeed in this role, you will have demonstrated experience in occupational hygiene principles, practice, and application, with an extensive Mining background.

As a motivated self-starter, you will enjoy the autonomous nature of this role and will be encouraged to learn and broaden your skillset at all times.

In addition, you will also ideally have:
  • Tertiary qualification in the discipline of Occupational Hygiene
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role with specific knowledge of Occupational Hygiene management, preferably within a mining environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of Mines Safety regulation
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing initiatives, process, policy and programs that are aligned to business Occupational Hygiene needs and deliver continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrable track record in partnering with key stakeholders, resulting in the development and implementation of effective occupational hygiene strategies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Our commitment to you

Newcrest's commitment to diversity and inclusion respects both the rights of every individual to work to their highest potential, free of discrimination, as well as the cultures, religions, and governing codes applicable to each country in which we operate.
