It's an exciting time to be a part of Newcrest's growth journey as we expand our operations both locally and abroad. At Cadia you will play a part in the expansion of our Tier 1 operation developing Cadia into one of the largest, safest, most cost effective and technologically advanced block caving mines in the world. Currently we are undertaking stage three of Cadia's mine life strategy by further developing our underground mine to include its 3 rd panel, as well as increasing our ore handling and processing capability.

Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area's occupied by winery's, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Who we're looking for

Reporting to the Superintendent - Mining Engineering, you will be responsible for assisting the team with medium to long-term designs, planning and scheduling.

Key responsibilities for this role include (but not limited to):
  • Accountability for all surface mining engineering designs and surface movements planning
  • Delivery of budget and quarterly surface operations forecasts
  • Tailings dam and site rehabilitation planning
  • Process safety - mitigation of major hazards through quality mine design and sequencing
  • Key inputs for LoPP processes, including tailings strategy
  • Leadership / mentoring role - development of mine planning skills within integrated planning

To succeed and thrive in this role, you'll come from an extensively strong background and demonstrated experience working in the mining/heavy industry in a senior engineering position. You will be able work autonomously and ideally have;
  • Experience in large-scale surface operations, including tailings dam construction and site rehabilitation
  • Proven experience in designing and scheduling medium to long-term plans
  • Ability to think strategically and effectively collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Previous experience with DESWIK or relevant mining software package
