Our client, Lihir Gold Limited operates one of the largest gold mines in Papua New Guinea 900kms north-east of Port Moresby on the tropical Niolam Island (Lihir Island). Lihir is a hard rock surface gold operation, ore is refractory and treated using pressure oxidation before the gold is recovered by a conventional leach process. The Role:

We are seeking an Experienced Geologist with Ore body knowledge to lead efforts to assist in the development and implementation of changes and or improvements to the Lihir Geological and Exploration Models. The incumbent must have;

Enthusiasm, self-motivation and the ability to maintain direction and achieve work objectives with minimal supervision. It is also important to note that this role requires a fit individual who will be comfortable being in isolated conditions for periods of up to two weeks at a time undertaking the required duties of the role.

You Will:
  • Take ownership when acquiring geologic measurements therefore ensuring data integrity for the Lihir Geologic and Exploration models.
  • Maintain team liaison and communication with department, site and exploration stakeholders.
  • Maintain direct technical output of work appropriate to the role.
  • Developing technical knowledge, establishing and monitoring technical systems, and managing relationships with external internal stakeholders.
  • Obtain Geologic observations and measurements from slim hole drilling on Lihir tenement
  • Develop and implement systems designed to ensure the integrity of geological and numerical data used in resource estimation and ore control.
  • Update and maintain the Geology databases
  • Assist with QA / QC reporting and recommend remedial actions
  • Assist with meeting SML compliance requirements Scheduling accountabilities includes preparing strategic and action plans and monitoring performance against plans, developing and managing the budget for the work unit, planning and allocating resource requirements, and scheduling work to achieve the required work output of the team.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or Earth Science is essential
  • Minimum of 3 years practical experience in a mining environment.
  • General geological experience covering mine geology, diamond core drilling and sampling techniques, geological interpretation, QAQC
  • Database administration Geostatistical modelling, reserve and resources estimation, some mine planning & grade control exposure

Mobilisation Requirements:
  • FIFO roster
  • Ability to provide/obtain valid police clearance
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment
