This is a permanent position that will work on a (5/2) roster. Preferred point of hire is Melbourne. However, we are also open to remote working arrangements for the successful candidate with regular travel to our Melbourne office.

Who we're looking for

We are seeking a Senior Mine Design & Planning Engineer to provide internal mining engineering support for studies into the design of future block cave projects. This role will play an active part in building and sustaining technical and strategic caving capability within Newcrest.

Reporting into the Mining Study Manager, your duties will also include:
  • Contributing to the continued improvement of safety and cost performance
  • Medium, long term & strategic mine planning of caving projects
  • Evaluating various existing, emerging and new mining technologies
  • Delivering assigned activities within scope, budget and time constraints
  • Assisting the Principal Mine Design & Planning Engineer to ensure clear articulation of the objectives and goals
  • Training and mentoring colleagues to develop and enhance technical skills
  • Managing and supporting any change to objectives or strategy

Our ideal candidate will be tertiary qualified in Mining Engineering or equivalent with experience in operational and mining planning roles in large scale cave mining operations and projects. As an expert in underground mining engineering, you will also have extensive experience in strategic underground mine optimisation and planning techniques.

Furthermore, you will also have experience:
  • Executing caving studies (Concept, Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility)
  • Delivering step change in mine design & planning processes
  • Working in a safety focused environment
