It's an exciting time to be a part of Newcrest's growth journey as we expand our operations both locally and abroad. At Cadia you will play a part in the expansion of our Tier 1 operation developing Cadia into one of the largest, safest, most cost effective and technologically advanced block caving mines in the world. Currently we are undertaking stage three of Cadia's mine life strategy by further developing our underground mine to include its 3 rd panel, as well as increasing our ore handling and processing capability.

Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area's occupied by wineries, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Who we're looking for

Our Orange Laboratory is currently seeking an experienced Supervisor to safely lead a laboratory production team focussed on delivering a high level of analytical services to Newcrest operations. Reporting to the Superintendent Laboratory Services, you will be accountable for leading the team in all operational activities within Newcrest Laboratory Services, including the application of advanced laboratory techniques in wet chemistry, sample preparation, fire assay and analytical instrumentation.

Key accountabilities will include;
  • Leading the team contribution to a safe working environment, continuous improvement and developing a strong safety culture
  • Scheduling of tasks and assigning resources on crew to ensure delivery of analysis to customer specifications
  • Leading and ensuring compliance to the Quality Management System
  • Building and maintaining excellent working relationships within the laboratory team as well as with external business partners, suppliers, and laboratory customers
  • Lead operational or cashflow improvement projects to improve assay quality, turn-around time and operational costs

To succeed in this role, you will be safety focused, team oriented and enjoy continuous improvement while striving for results. You will have experience in a similar role within the mining industry, ideally you will also possess the following:
  • A minimum of 5 years laboratory experience, preferably with a NATA accredited facility
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management of a team in a technical environment
  • Experience with advanced laboratory instrumentation
  • Demonstrated safety management / risk management capability
  • Degree Qualification in relevant science field preferred
  • Training and assessing qualification advantageous
