The Role

We are seeking an experienced Officer - Rotable Controller for a FIFO position on Lihir Island, PNG. Reporting to the Supervisor - Mechanical/ Senior Specialist - Mechanical, you will be required to manage and control the rotables in the Services Workshops & Rebuilds area.

The role will have responsibility to:
  • Ensures personal and team compliance with all company HSE requirements & policies including Fitness for Work.
  • Completes any HSE tasks only if the hazards and any potential consequences are understood and any corrections are firstly agreed by the relevant Supervisor.
  • Works constructively within a diverse group of people.
  • Delivers consistently on commitments and takes accountability for own development.
  • Ensures rotables receipt, inspection, defect assessment, scope of repair, refurbishment, testing, storage and reissue is conducted and recorded to approved procedures.
  • Ensures refurbished equipment meets OEM standards.
  • Where applicable, ensures warranties and claims are processed with OEM.
  • Where refurbishment is outsourced, ensures vendor facilities are adequated and ensure returned items are inspected.
  • Monitors and continuously seeks to improve the rotables management process to ensure optimum cost, quality and turnaround time.
  • Responds to non-conforming refurbished items according to department procedure.
  • Liaises with stores department to ensure stock control and management of rotables meets plant requirements.
  • Actively seeks cost reduction opportunities and identifies & reports any cost wastage within designated area.


Essential criteria
  • Trade or engineering qualification desirable.
  • Recent graduate Degree/Diploma - Mechanical Engineering within the last 1 to 3years for an entry level
  • 3-5 years post trade work experience essential in fixed plant maintenance in heavy industry, preferable minerals processing.
  • Minimum level of Grade 10 education essential.
  • Good verbal, written communication, and public speaking skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously.
  • High attention to detail with good time management skills.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution.


Desirable criteria
  • Works well with others, listens actively, seeks inputs and asks clarification questions to check understating staying focused and composed in a variety of work situations.
  • Effectively managers own time to complete tasks in line with job expectations and requirements adjusting plans to cater for unforeseen events / disruptions.
  • Any previous mechanical experience within mining (highly desirable).
  • Computer proficiency in SAP & MS Office suite desirable.


The Requirements
  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
