The Role:

We are seeking Geotechnical Technician candidates for a position on Lihir Island, PNG. Reporting to the Technical Specialist- Mining Systems, the purpose of this role is to collect geotechnical slope monitoring data, ensuring that the data is reliable and timely for reporting to the geotechnical engineers. It is also to undertake installation and maintenance of the slope monitoring systems to specific standards. These responsibilities are integral in managing the performance of pit slopes and play a vital part of the geohazard management plan. You will also add value by:
  • Ensuring geotechnical instruments are installed under guidance from senior geotechnical technicians
  • Identifying hazards associated with monitoring
  • Identifying repairs required and communicating with vendors to order parts
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvement



Essential criteria:
  • 3+ years' experience in open pit metalliferous mining with a background in managing ground control management programs and geotechnical data collection
  • Strong analytical and data analysis skills to assist with troubleshooting tasks
  • Strong Microsoft office skills
  • Attention to detail and time management skills


Qualifications:
  • Relevant degree or trade certificate is essential
  • PNG driver's license class 6 is desirable

  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last 6 months
