The Company:

Our client, Lihir Gold Limited operates one of the largest gold mines in Papua New Guinea 900kms north-east of Port Moresby on the tropical Niolam Island (Lihir Island). Lihir is a hard rock surface gold operation, ore is refractory and treated using pressure oxidation before the gold is recovered by a conventional leach process. Globe 24-7 has been selected as the recruitment partner to assist with the sourcing process for this position and look forward to applicants who meet the required skills, experience, and qualifications.

We are looking for someone who can:
  • Provide leadership through identifying business needs and internal training requirements that support the training learning framework (TLF)
  • Manage and drive learning and development strategy by supporting the creation of operational plans and initiatives to effectively implement the training learning framework (TLF)
  • Ensure site learning programs (i.e. career development pathways, Organisational Health Survey (OHI), talent calendar etc.) are well developed, effectively implemented, openly communicated and consistently administered to all employees
  • Conduct talent assessments by using various talent management strategies, tools and processes to identify and evaluate high potential employees and learning needs that identify employee readiness, talent gaps and retention risks
  • Review and analyse data to diagnose problems that accurately identify capability gaps and then create & deliver solutions to address the issues
  • Lead and implement succession planning programs
  • Effectively implement Scholarships; Industrial Trainee Programs; and Graduate Development Programs
  • Establish and maintain effective stakeholder relationships internally and externally to Lihir
  • Develop team members through formal feedback, career development, coaching and training opportunities
  • Influence other functions within Newcrest and external stakeholders by using knowledge of their own function and of the Newcrest business
  • Create cross department opportunities for people to work together to enable them to contribute to the business and learn from each other
  • Drive and influence proactive safety behaviours within workgroups through visible leadership



Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Tertiary Bachelor Degree in Education or Human Resources or Psychology essential
  • Post Graduate qualification advantageous
  • Previous experience in delivery and assessment of training desirable
  • Qualification in Certificate IV in Training & Assessment
  • Accreditation from the PNG Human Resources Institute desirable

Mobilisation Requirements:
  • Ability to be on site for the first 2-3 months to meet the training and induction requirements of the role
  • Ability to travel to site every 4 weeks
  • Port Moresby residents preferred
  • Ability to provide/obtain valid police clearance
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment
