The Open Pit Mining Engineer (Short-Range Planner) will provide aligned, consistent, high-quality short term mine plans required to support surface production at the Red Chris Mine.

Accountabilities:

Reporting to the Senior - Mining Engineer, responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Safety - Demonstrate a personal commitment and leadership in providing a safe working environment by:
    • Promoting and maintaining a culture of safe production by compliance with company safety systems, policies, procedures, environmental requirements, internal team safety requirements and other relevant targets
    • Actively modelling and pursuing visible felt safety leadership, and our culture-based safety program
  • Create weekly mine plans, which align with the 3 Month Rolling Plan mid-range plan
  • Create 3 Month Rolling Plans, which align with the quarterly mid-range plans and budget
  • Spend time in the field with production supervisors and engineering team developing mining strategies and evaluating plan performance
  • Provide guidance and support to operations to ensure compliance and efficient mining
  • Track and present weekly and monthly results
  • Engage in continuous improvement projects to move the department towards industry leading practice
  • Assist with design functions to support safe, cost-effective open pit production
  • Project works and management, which may include cross-department consultation, to improve open-pit operations

Qualifications:

Essential
  • A demonstrated commitment to safety.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mine Engineering, or diploma from an accredited University, technical school or college required.
  • Able to register with EGBC as an EIT or P.Eng.
  • Experience with mine planning software - MineSight (Atlas), Vulcan, Surpac, etc.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Drill and Blast Engineer/Short-Range Planner.
  • Use of MineSight or other 3d modelling software in mine planning.
  • Scheduling software.
  • Drill and blast QAQC skills and experience.
  • Leadership training and mentoring.

Desirable
  • P.Eng. designation in BC (or ability to transfer designation).
  • Short Range Planning experience in polymetallic open pit.
  • Drill and blast operational experience.
  • Experience as a mine operations supervisor.
  • Geology and Geotechnical engineering experience.
