We are now seeking expressions of interest from current Newcrest staff for the position of Metallurgist at Lihir Gold Operations (LGO)

The role will have responsibility to:
  • Engage in HSE programs within the team and across site.
  • Drive and influence proactive safety behaviours within the team and others in engagement.
  • Ensure all personnel, visitors and contractors comply with site and contractual HSE requirements.
  • Plan work so that it can be conducted safely; and consider environmental conditions, nearby activities, and the people and other resources needed to complete the work.
  • Engage with operational leaders and teams on day to day and strategic safety and health programs
  • Ensure incident investigations are efficiently and effectively carried out and provide guidance and support to operational leaders achieving incident investigation and reporting requirements.
  • Actively implements New-safe program in consultation with management and the workforce.
  • Provide coaching and support to the workforce in line with safety management initiatives, procedures and processes.
  • Participate in and ensure effective health and safety consultation and communication is implemented
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and relevant industry standards of practice.
  • Ensure continuous evaluation of the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) aspects of equipment and services.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of HSE management practices.

Essential criteria
  • 5+ previous years' experience in delivery and assessment of training desirable.
  • Tertiary qualification will be an advantage
  • Certificate 4 in Work Health and Safety preferred
  • PNG Driver's Licence - Class 6 essential

Desirable criteria
  • Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication, and public speaking skills.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training
  • High attention to detail with good time management skills.

The Requirements
  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
