Our client, Lihir Gold Limited operates one of the largest gold mines in Papua New Guinea 900kms north-east of Port Moresby on the tropical Niolam Island (Lihir Island). Lihir is a hard rock surface gold operation, ore is refractory and treated using pressure oxidation before the gold is recovered by a conventional leach process. The Role:

We are seeking a Human Resource Business Partner (HRBP) to work in the Human Resources, Learning and Talent departments at the Lihir Gold Limited operation in Papua New Guinea. Reporting to Senior HR Business Partner, you will provide day-to-day HR support & guidance to the business on a variety of HR matters across all departments of the Lihir mine site. The roles is based at the plant site on Lihir Island on a FIFO roster.

We are looking for someone who:
  • Can provide HR Support for a range of matters across the employee lifecycle from commencement to termination acting as a liaison between the general workforce and the HR Department
  • Can champion the use of company HR systems, procedure and processes to support management and the business
  • Able to participate and sometimes lead various HR activities, projects and other initiatives
  • Can actively support the implementation of the departmental people plan
  • Can work constructively with a diverse and multicultural workforce
  • Demonstrate consistency in meeting deadlines, working proactively and confidently engage with staff at all work levels
  • Strong attention to details, ability to multitask and manage a high volume of work through developed time management skills
  • Has excellent verbal, public speaking and written communication skills
  • An active listener and carries interpersonal skills
  • Value safety for self and others at all times


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Business or other relevant tertiary-level qualification
  • Accreditation from the PNG Human Resource Institute is highly desirable
  • 4-5 years relevant work experience essential
  • Good understanding or working knowledge of SAP is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of the HR value chain
  • Good understanding of the PNG Employment Act and related legislation
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite


Mobilisation Requirements:
  • FIFO roster
  • Ability to provide/obtain valid police clearance
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment
