Globe 24-7 in partnership with Newcrest Mining, is working together to source experienced and qualified talent to join their Fixed Plant Maintenance team at their Lihir Gold Operations (LGO) in Papua New Guinea.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician for a FIFO position on Lihir Island, PNG. Reporting to the Mechanical Supervisor, you will be required to perform various welding, boiler making and mechanical repairs & maintenance activities common to the process plant operations and associated autoclaves, crushing, grinding, flotation, conveyor systems support facilities & ancillary equipment. Your duties will include however not limited to:

The role will have responsibility to:

• Performs machining and maintenance in the field or workshop on fixed plant equipment, structures, and components of the processing facility, and writes reports detailing work performed and problems found.
• Effectively communicates day-to-day maintenance issues with the supervisor and with other sections and work groups by providing updates of relevant issues and seeking information or input as required to define maintenance priorities and develop effective working relationships.
• Escalates any issues, delays or roadblocks impacting ability to execute tasks.
• Performs preventative maintenance inspections on plant equipment as directed.
• Ensures workshop facilities and equipment within area of responsibility are kept in good working order

Essential criteria

• Minimum level of Grade 10 education essential.
• Mechanical Trade qualification or certification essential.
• Sound knowledge of pumps, valves,
• Demonstrated experience in performing maintenance on heavy fixed plant equipment.
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously.
• High attention to detail with good time management skills.
• Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building

Desirable criteria

• 3 - 5 years relevant work experience desirable in heavy industry preferably within a mining environment; either through experience in a similar operation or through progression as an NML Trainee Operator.
• Autoclave experience advantageous
• Confined space, working at heights tickets desirable.
• Computer proficiency in SAP & MS Office suite desirable.
• Machining experience

The Requirements

• Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
• Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
• Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
