Our client, Lihir Gold Limited operates one of the largest gold mines in Papua New Guinea 900kms north-east of Port Moresby on the tropical Niolam Island (Lihir Island). The Role:

We are seeking a Principal - Human Resources to work in the Human Resources, Learning and Talent Departments at the Lihir Gold Limited operation in Papua New Guinea. Reporting to the Manager - Human Resources, you will initiate, develop and coordinate various Human Resource strategies, policies and procedures within the department from recruitment, selection, Onboarding, training & development; employee relations; performance management; compensation and organisational development. In addition it will also provide analysis, innovation and continuous improvement across the employee value chain.

We are looking for a leader who:
  • Can develop HR strategies, Policies & Procedure that are aligned with attracting, motivating and retaining a fully functional workforce
  • Can recommend new approaches and best practices across all key HR areas better improve efficiency of the services performed by the HR department
  • Is able to provide technical advice and specific guidance to support the HR Department in achieving it's strategies and goals across Recruitment and Onboarding, Learning & Talent, Employee Relations, Performance Management, Compensation and Organisational Development
  • Demonstrate ability to act in the HR Manager role where required
  • Has excellent verbal, written communication and public speaking skills
  • Is self motivated with the ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Has excellent time management and organisations skills with proven ability to multi-task
  • Can demonstrate strong attention to detail and work efficiently to meet deadlines and the clients and customers needs
  • Has good listening and interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution and negotiations
  • Can communicate effectively across all departments, identify where further engagements are needed and an understanding of how to adapt communication styles to a multicultural workforce
  • As a Leader of Leaders, be a role model and demonstrate the ability to coach, train and develop a senior HR personnel


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Business or other relevant tertiary-level qualification is essential
  • Relevant post graduate qualification desirable
  • Accreditation from the PNG Human Resource Institute is highly desirable
  • 10-15+ years relevant work experience essential
  • Good understanding or working knowledge of SAP is highly desirable
  • Broad skillset having worked in two or three functional areas of Human Resources
  • Excellent understanding of the HR value chain
  • Thorough understanding of the PNG Employment law and related legislation
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite


Mobilisation Requirements:
  • Residential on Lihir Island - Relocation Services provided
  • Ability to provide/obtain valid police clearance
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment
