Our client, Lihir Gold Limited operates one of the largest gold mines in Papua New Guinea 900kms north-east of Port Moresby on the tropical Niolam Island (Lihir Island). The Role:

We are seeking a Superintendent - Projects & Engineering to work in the Power and Utilities Department at the Lihir Gold Limited operation in Papua New Guinea.

We are looking for a leader who can:
  • Balance own time between Brisbane and site to manage the Engineering & Construction Alliance contractors to
    • deliver the P&E Capital plan on time and budget
    • provide onsite & offsite Engineering Services
    • provide site Construction Services
  • Ensure alignment between P&E and site Automation teams for the design, configuration, and commissioning of automation systems
  • Ensure department ownership and engagement in all projects from definition phase to Commissioning
  • Ensure P&E integration with departments for all planning & permitting required to execute tie-ins and contruction works
  • Ensure Department Leaders deliver operational readiness activities prior to commissioning for all projects
  • Ensure Department Leaders own and lead the commissioning of all P&E projects
  • Maintain and operate the site batch plant/s to deliver concrete to required engineering specifications
  • Be the site focal point for the co-ordination and implementation of larger projects run from the Melbourne office
  • Develop & manage the Department Budget
  • Work closely with D&P in the development & management of P&E Capital Costs
  • Work Closely with Department Leaders to develop & manage their studies OPEX Cost
  • Work in accordance with PNG Mine Safety Act, Newcrest Safety System, Safety Policies and Procedures and Newcrest Environment policies and all departmental operating procedures

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Tertiary qualified Bachelor in Engineering essential and accreditation from the Institute of Engineers PNG Inc. to be completed as part of work permit process
  • Eligible to become registered Mine Works Manager with MRA
  • 10+ years relevant work experience essential in heavy industry engineering
  • Previous experience working in a remote location in a developing country advantageous, but not essential
  • Fundamental understanding of the operation & maintenance of electrical generation and HV distribution equipment
  • Fundamental understanding of the operation & maintenance of reciprocating engines
  • Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication and public speaking skills
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Sound planning, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training


Mobilisation Requirements:
  • Balanced time between Brisbane and Lihir Mine site
  • Ability to provide/obtain valid police clearance
