It's an exciting time to be a part of Newcrest's growth journey as we expand our operations both locally and abroad. At Cadia you will play a part in the expansion of our Tier 1 operation developing Cadia into one of the largest, safest, most cost effective and technologically advanced block caving mines in the world. Currently we are undertaking stage three of Cadia's mine life strategy by further developing our underground mine to include its 3 rd panel, as well as increasing our ore handling and processing capability.

As a company we are highly skilled at identifying and turning large-scale deposits into Tier 1 assets with one of the lowest all in sustaining costs in the mining industry. Our extensive experience in block caving, processing, utilising the latest technology and techniques positions us as a world leader in our field.

Operations near and far

Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area's occupied by wineries, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Who we're looking for

Reporting into the Manager - Commercial & Business Services, the primary purpose of this position is to lead the Commercial department in delivering financial and commercial support to the Cadia Valley gold mine. You will play a key role in developing and enhancing the proactive business acumen across all departments in value accretive deployment of operating and capital costs. You'll operate both as a commercial business service provider and financial policy governance champion and provide strong commercial acumen and guidance on key business decisions for both the operational and strategic levels.

A few of your key responsibilities will include (but not limited to);
  • Provide leadership and management of the Commercial Finance department team to safely deliver financial and planning outcomes for Australia's largest underground gold mine and one of the largest gold mines in the world
  • Provide guidance to the Commercial Manager and Site Leadership Team to shape site strategy through cost and capital management and prioritisation
  • Accountability for the capital management framework for Cadia, including business case articulation, approvals and governance.
  • Proactively manage and help deliver the short and long term planning process and deliverables and to ensure accountability and delivery of the outcomes as articulated in the plans
  • Own the financial statements of Cadia, including P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statement, and associated controls.

To succeed and thrive in this position you will be tertiary qualified in a finance related discipline with extensive demonstrated experience in leadership and the ability to ensure compliance with legislation, standards, directives, policies and procedures.

It will be highly advantageous if you have experience in similar support roles in large scale mining operations.

You will also have;
  • CA or CPA qualifications
  • Extensive experience in commercial roles with a minimum 2 years' management experience of large complex teams, with demonstrated high performance in financial and management accounting and planning management
  • A demonstrated owner's mind set and strong customer service exposure to all stakeholders
  • Strong demonstrated experience in setting standards, business processes and audit execution
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a team to a sustained higher-level competency and performance
  • Experience with successful coaching and mentoring will also be highly regarded
