Our client, Lihir Gold Limited operates one of the largest gold mines in Papua New Guinea 900kms north-east of Port Moresby on the tropical Niolam Island (Lihir Island). The Role:

We are seeking to appoint 3 highly motivated members to the external relations and communications team. The Specialist - Stakeholder Communications will work as part of a team of communication professionals at the Lihir Gold Limited operation in Papua New Guinea and will be available to travel to Port Moresby as required.

Reporting to the Manager - External Relations & Communication you will have a strong background in journalism, media and stakeholder engagement at all levels. You will also demonstrate experience with branding, social media campaigns, public relations and working with government bodies. You will have previous experience in a mining or oil and gas or similar environment and be able to demonstrate outstanding communication skills with the workforce and the community.

We are seeking dedicated team players who :
  • Exhibit the ability to work constructively with a diverse group of people to facilitate the coexistence of people and activities in a culturally diverse community
  • Demonstrates the ability to develop and execute stakeholder communication plans and strategies including radio, tv and digital content
  • Can effectively manage time to complete tasks in line with standards and safety regulations and adjusts plan to cater for unforeseen events/disruptions
  • Is able to recognise problems and understands the need for, and collect additional information to identify the root cause
  • Will support the delivery of on Island interactions with government and non government interest groups in coordination with POM
  • Can prepare responses to external and government matters related to LGO activities
  • Will review and improve LGO stakeholder communication standards, management systems and frameworks
  • Is self-motivated with the ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Will be role a model with the ability to make a difference in the community

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Tertiary qualifications in the area of communication or public relations is essential
  • 5+ years relevant work experience
  • Expertise in government relations and stakeholder communications
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Design Suite
  • Sound planning, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with branding, general and social media
  • Great photography skills and the ability to take & capture video footage
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously and network both internally and externally to achieve business outcomes
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication and public speaking skills
  • PNG National Drivers License essential

Mobilisation Requirements:
  • FIFO to Lihir Island
  • Ability to travel to Port Moresby as required
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment
  • Ability to provide/obtain valid police clearance
