Reporting to the Superintendent - Mining, the Open Pit Project Engineer's role is critical to the delivery of the Red Chris mine plan. The successful candidate will provide engineering support to the mining operations team with a focus on improving productivity and fleet performance as well as undertaking project execution, cost control and contractor management.

Accountabilities:
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Providing visible safety leadership with a strong focus on behavioural safety and culture
- Initiating and leading productivity improvement projects for mining operations, including contract management and management of change
- Assisting with developing and maintaining department budgets and monthly cost reviews
- Developing work packages for contract tendering for Open Pit project work
- Data visualization assisting operational decision making
- Contributing to the planning and execution of the Open pit with productivity improvement initiatives
- Identifying improvements in process safety (standards or procedures) and assist in implementing world best practice mining for the Open Pit Mine
- Challenging assumptions and foster innovative thinking, to deliver the best outcomes for Newcrest and its business partners
Qualifications and Experience:
- 5+ years experience as a Mining Engineer in operating open pit mines and projects under development/expansion
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, or equivalent degree in a relevant field
- A strong focus on safety with the ability to positively influence others
- Strong background and a proven track record delivering open pit productivity improvements and project execution
- Prior experience in cost control and contract management
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) at all levels and to clearly articulate purpose and payoff
- Knowledge of technology project management is an asset
- Experience with Northern Canadian mining projects/operations is preferable
