Globe 24-7 in partnership with Newcrest Mining, is working together to source experienced and qualified talent to join their Mining - Crushing & Conveying team at their Lihir Gold Operations (LGO) in Papua New Guinea.

The Role

We are seeking for an experienced Leading Hand Mechanical (Crushing & Conveying) for a FIFO position on Lihir Island, PNG. Reporting to the Supervisor - Crushing & Conveying- you will be required to act as the team lead that monitors and oversees the day-to-day activities of the Technicians and apprentices to effectively carry out maintenance work on all equipment associated with the Process Crushing area.

The role will have responsibility to:
  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections on plant equipment and assists maintenance planning section in the planning and development of day-to-day and weekly operations and maintenance schedules.
  • Works constructively with a diverse group of people that monitors the performance of the team to identify areas requiring improvement and implement training and coaching measures to ensure employees receive sufficient training enabling them to perform their duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Delivers consistently on commitments and takes accountability for own development.
  • Ensures personal and team compliance with all company HSE requirements & policies including Fitness for Work.
  • Completes any HSE tasks only if the hazards and any potential consequences are understood and any corrections are firstly agreed by the relevant Supervisor
  • Actively seeks cost reduction opportunities and identifies & reports any cost wastage within designated area.


Essential criteria
  • Minimum level of Grade 10 education.
  • Certificates I, II or III Belt Splicing.
  • Class 6 and "C" licenses or able to obtain
  • Certificate in Workplace Assessment and Training or similar.



Desirable criteria


  • 3 - 5 years relevant work experience essential in power generation or heavy industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in all aspects of operation, monitoring and knowledge of steam turbines, diesel engines, HFO separation units and related plant & equipment.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Good verbal, written communication and public speaking skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously from time to time.
  • High attention to detail with good time management skills.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.


The Requirements
  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
