The Role

We are seeking a Senior Specialist - Hydrocarbons on a FIFO arrangement with Lihir Gold Limited in Papua New Guinea. Reporting into the Superintendent Reliability your role provides technical governance of the supply, storage, application, and disposal of hydrocarbon products used at the process plant. This role will also share technical supervision of the Condition Monitoring and Lubrication teams. Role has no direct reports, however it is expected to provide close technical supervision to two other roles, with advice to the Reliability Superintendent.

Some direct accountabilities will include:
  • Technical: Provides technical governance of all processes involving hydrocarbons in the plant area, all stages of the supply, storage, application and disposal cycle, and for whoever carries them out
  • Develop and review systems, procedures and tasks for management of hydrocarbons
  • Establish and develop hydrocarbon databases and product specifications, equivalence tables, MSDSs, OEM's specifications etc for the plant
  • Ensure that hydrocarbon storage, decanting and application equipment (including weather protection, bunding, fire protection etc) is fit for purpose, in good order and used correctly
  • Refine and add to the set of reliability engineering methodologies in use on site
  • Update the equipment reliability knowledge-base with all lessons learnt
  • Scheduling: Includes preparing strategic and action plans and monitoring performance against plans, developing and managing the budget for the work unit, planning and allocating resource requirements, and scheduling work to achieve the required work output of the team.
  • People accountabilities: Develop and implement the hydrocarbon training program for the Process Plant. Provide accurate advice to the Reliability Superintendent and Senior Engineers on all matters involving the use of hydrocarbons in the plant
  • Authorise expenditure of budgeted funds to the limit of delegation, including approval for payment

Skills, Qualifications and Experience
  • Essential to have working knowledge of current hydrocarbon management / condition monitoring concepts and methodologies
  • Relevant engineering degree or a wealth of advanced practical experience and advanced trade qualifications
  • Min 10+ years experience in fixed plant maintenance and Con-Mon / NDT / Lube roles in heavy industry, including supervisory experience
  • Experience with Strategy development for plant
  • Shutdown experience in fixed plant gold processing or similar complex plants ideal
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills are essential
  • Demonstrated ability to technically understand blueprints, drawings & specifications
  • Familiar with SAP
  • A good understanding of factors influencing standard maintenance business practice KPIs
  • Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication and public speaking skills.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Sound planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training

Mobilisation Requirements
  • This is FIFO role
  • Ability to provide/obtain valid police clearance
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment
