We offer several designated marshalling points within BC including Nanaimo, Vancouver, Kelowna, Kamloops, Williams Lake, Prince George, Smithers, and Calgary, AB.

The core purpose of this role is to provide site-based (Fly-in/Fly-out) geological functional support to Underground and Open Pit operations in the areas of diamond drill core planning, geological and geotechnical mapping, sampling, and monitoring, grade control, diamond core logging, compiling mining and geological production statistics and reporting, and any additional requirements of the Block Cave business plan.

We are seeking (1) individual for a Fly In, Fly Out opportunity working on a two weeks in, two weeks out rotation.

Accountabilities:

Technical

Demonstrates technical and conceptual excellence in anticipating problems, supports the team and plans to deliver agreed departmental and business goals to ensure the value of the business is maintained or improved:
  • Performs daily ore control tasks including geological mapping, sampling, stockpile management, ore/waste delineation and mark-up, as well as working with mining software applications
  • Collects and interprets geological data from exploration programs, including diamond drilling, diamond core logging, field mapping, surface sampling, processing core, and re-logging
  • Ensures Underground and Open Pit group is provided with most current geological interpretations and that changes to interpretations are conveyed to the appropriate departments
  • Maximizes the value of the ore reserves by applying effective dilution and mine recovery controls
  • Implements drilling programs which benefit the mine plan and increase knowledge of the mining areas
  • Assists with ore and waste rock management programs as directed
  • Inputs and ensures quality, accurate and up to date geological data is entered to geology databases
  • Provides reports of all substandard conditions and recommends corrective action to be taken immediately
  • Assist in the reconciliation process, including the subsequent reporting and investigation, ensuring the on-time release of concise monthly reconciliation reporting data.
  • Updating of 3(D) dimensional structural and lithological interpretations

  • Maintains functional safety and awareness of emerging safety standards, ensuring alignment with industry

Contributes to or establishes effective budgeting, forecasting, cost management and analysis processes ensuring compliance with company financial and governance policies, procedures and reporting standards.
  • Ensures compliance with the Mines Act and applicable permits, regulations and site policies in the execution of assigned duties
  • Performs risk management audits, taking a proactive risk management approach to departmental tasks, i.e. recognising, analysing and responding to ensure risks are managed in accordance with company requirements
  • Manages change and risk through the application of appropriate assessment and quantification process to ensure that the business is not deliberately or inadvertently subjected to unnecessary operational, commercial, or legal risks
  • Undertakes all business in adherence to the company Code of Conduct, Anti-Bribery and Corruption and Fraud prevention policies, procedures, and strategies

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Post-graduate B.Sc. degree in Geology, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Registered Geologist-In-Training (G.I.T), Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo), equivalent, or the ability to achieve this, is considered an asset
  • Valid driver's license (in good standing) and the ability to drive Manual vehicles
  • Minimum of one (1) to eight (8) years of experience in geology, geological modeling, geotechnical aspects of mine planning, or precious and base metal mining operations
  • Related experience in core descriptions, geological and geotechnical mapping, and modeling in porphyry Copper-Gold systems
  • Related experience in bulk underground mining and an understanding of Project Management would be considered assets
  • Demonstrates people leadership skills, as well as critical and strategic thinking
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite of Products, Microsoft Teams, and One View reports
  • Experience with Vulcan, Deswik, LeapFrog and MineSite and/or other geological software considered a strong asset
  • Experience with Acquire, MS Excel, MS Teams, Sharepoint and SAP considered an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of accuracy
  • Strong multi-tasking and proven ability to manage competing priorities based on business demands
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and professionalism
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision once familiar with requirements
  • Self-motivated and takes initiative; proactively looks for ways to add value
