The Role

Reporting to the Supervisor - Mechanical, you will be required to provide mechanical fitting & maintenance activities common to a Crushing plant operation and associated, conveyor systems, support facilities & ancillary equipment.

The role will have responsibility to:
  • Ensures personal and team compliance with all company HSE requirements & policies including Fitness for Work.
  • Completes any HSE tasks only if the hazards and any potential consequences are understood and any corrections are firstly agreed by the relevant Supervisor.
  • Works constructively within a diverse group of people.
  • Delivers consistently on commitments and takes accountability for own development
  • Performs Fitter tasks, repairs and maintenance in the field or workshop on fixed plant equipment, structures and components of the crushing facility, and writes reports detailing work performed and problems found.
  • Provide ongoing daily services in inspecting, installing, fault-finding/troubleshooting, repairing and testing mechanical equipment as required.
  • Effectively communicates day-to-day maintenance issues with the supervisor and with other sections and work groups by providing updates of relevant issues and seeking information or input as required to define maintenance priorities and develop effective working relationships.
  • Escalates any issues, delays or roadblocks impacting ability to execute tasks.
  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections on plant equipment as directed.
  • Ensures workshop facilities and equipment within area of responsibility are kept in good working order.
  • Actively seeks cost reduction opportunities and identifies & reports any cost wastage within designated area.

Essential criteria
  • Mechanical trade qualification essential.
  • 3-5 years post trade work experience essential in mining (preferably Gold Mining) and or heavy industry essential.
  • Minimum level of Grade 10 education essential.
  • Demonstrated experience performing maintenance on heavy plant equipment.
  • PNG Driver's Licence - Class 6 essential.
  • Good verbal, written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously.
  • High attention to detail with good time management skills.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution.

Desirable criteria
  • Sound knowledge on crushers, pumps, valves, conveyors drive systems and hydraulics.
  • Currently holds or is willing to attain mobile equipment tickets eg; forklift/gantry etc.
  • Recognises problems and proactively work towards resolution under the guidance of immediate supervisor.

The Requirements
  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
