Seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Underground Mine Planning Engineer, responsible for generating, optimising and communicating medium and long-term mine plans, maintenance of appropriate mine planning project files, provision of accurate planning information for current and future mining studies and for each stage of the Medium-Term planning cycle (Quarterly, Budget) and future mining studies and supporting site based mine planning functions and processes for Telfer Operations.

This is a permanent position based in Newcrest's Perth Office, with regular travel to the Telfer site as required (approx. 1 week per month)

This is a rare opportunity to join our high performing team on the innovative and challenging expansion projects for Newcrest's Telfer mine site.

You will explore and critically evaluate all feasible mining methods to assess the best options to maximise value, communicating findings at each stage to relevant stakeholders.

In the Great Sandy Desert in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia, our Telfer gold-copper mine is our fly-in-fly-out operation, comprising both open pits and an underground mine. While at site Telfer offers a diverse range of recreational activities including a gym, swimming pool, driving range, movie room and refurbished communal eatery.

Key requirements for this role:
  • Generate fit for purpose mine plans, in accordance with Telfer standards, that optimise the Telfer Mine Plan including developing mine plans that identify, evaluate and optimise the Telfer value and identify key tactical objectives, opportunities and projects requiring further focus/study to unlock Telfer value.
  • Deliver mine designs and schedules supporting the Telfer Ore Reserves: Generate mine planning data based on corporate guidance and the best available input data. Provide technical input to relevant documentation as necessary.
  • Generate and communicate Budget Mine Plan, considering all relevant inputs and constraints. Including operational stakeholder's contribution and endorsement of inputs and outputs.
  • Update Forecast on a quarterly basis considering updated face position and any relevant changes to input assumptions, working in conjunction with the site operational teams to update any relevant changes in assumptions or activities (models, rates, economics, constraints etc.)
  • Collaborate with the Newcrest geology team to ensure sufficient geological information is gathered to update long-term plans and to provide detailed medium-term mine plans, including potential future required drilling programs where additional geological data is required.
  • Opportunity Identification: Define new or alternative mine design and sequencing opportunities within the Telfer Plan considering new resource information, technology and techniques. Communicate with relevant stakeholders and ensure inclusion into Edge Initiatives where appropriate.
  • Communicate and work closely with the site technical services teams to ensure work is aligned with the site teams' work programs. Provide input and review into operational plans such as monthly plans, drill programmes and geotechnical plans. Communicate and collaborate with the site technical services team as required.

About you:
  • You will hold a tertiary level Engineering degree, (Mining discipline desirable)
  • Proven medium-term & long-term underground mine planning (& design) experience, with exposure to Block Caving and/ or sub-level caving methods highly advantageous
  • A comprehensive understanding of the cost and revenue factors associated with mine development and studies
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to effectively work within a team and manage stakeholders.
