The Senior Technical Mine Planning Engineer's primary responsibility is to provide complex specialist open pit technical services and expertise which feeds into quarterly, annual, and life of mine projections. The Senior Technical Mine Planning Engineer's responsibilities encompasses all aspects of the mine's value chain, from reserves to the extraction of quality ore for processing.

The Senior Technical Mine Planning Engineer will work closely with the Mine Engineering Manager to ensure all mine plan projections are technically viable and support the Company's medium and long term production requirements.

Accountabilities:

Perform the following duties with safety being the number one priority:
  • The Senior Technical Mine Planning Engineer will be responsible for all technical aspects and mine plans required to sustain life of mine, long, and medium-term planning of all mining activities
  • Produce mine technical criteria to achieve safe and sustainable production schedules toward facilitating efficient and effective development and extraction of ore reserves
  • Champion commitment to safety and operational excellence
  • Provide and or review technical mine designs as part of the development of the mine's operating schedule
  • Communicate relevant mine planning technical issues to management personnel and other key stakeholders
  • Incorporate relevant financial and economical parameters into technical mine design
  • Develop monitoring processes to identify improvements of production key performance indicators (KPI's)
  • Remain current with changes in mining technology and perform technical systems audits and maintain technical standards
  • Maintain knowledge of the applicable regulatory requirements including NI 43-101 and the CIM standards and best practice guidelines
  • Mentor, train, and supervise junior engineers and other staff members as may be necessary
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications & Experience:

BSc. Degree in Mining or Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent, with a minimum of (7) years of relevant mine planning and technical expertise. Experience with the start-up phase at remote mine sites in an open pit mining environment will be considered an asset.

SKILLS
  • Advanced computer skills (Deswik, MineSite, AutoCAD, Vulcan, relevant mine planning software, and Microsoft Office etc.).
  • Registered, or have the ability to register as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia
  • Exceptional planning, organizational, communication and problem solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (English)
  • Ability to liaise effectively with management teams and deal with complex problems
  • Strong knowledge of Federal and Provincial mining & safety legislation and regulations

  • Travel to remote mine site, as required
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions, as required
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team
