The Role

We are now seeking for an experienced Technician - Permits for a FIFO position based at our Lihir Gold Operation (LGO) with Power and Utilities Department. Reporting to the Supervisor - Permits, the successful candidate will carry out the daily operations of the Permit to Work (PTW) System through Permit Writing, Issuing and Isolations to ensure production and safety guidelines are met and adhered to daily. The role ensures that all hazards to life and equipment have been isolated and controlled and that all stakeholders are aware of the PTW Management System and that it is followed and understood before the issue of any permits

The role will have responsibility to:
  • Carries out work as directed and ensures that all safe working procedures are observed adhering to weekly maintenance schedules, plans and preparations for equipment shutdowns.
  • Liaises with Maintenance, Operations personnel, and business partners to ensure equipment is available and ready for maintenance without affecting safety or production
  • Conducts real time assessments of the work area to identify real time hazards associated within the work environment to perform isolations to ensure the safety of the people working on the equipment is not compromised.
  • Communicates all PTW and Isolation issues to the PTW Supervisor as soon as practically possible providing daily feedback.
  • Understands the operation of all equipment associated within the Power & Technology operational structure to ensure accurate process conditions are noted when isolating equipment; reporting or controlling hazards; and assisting with OHSE investigations.
  • Ensures all works for the shift (inspections, identifying defects, system verifications, routine schedules, SOP's etc.) are completed within all safety, environmental and company compliance processes and guidelines.
  • Participates in skills training, shift handover communications, toolbox meetings and any other activities as required by the supervisor and conducts general site and specific area inductions relevant to work area to allow access.

Essential criteria
  • 3 - 5 years relevant work experience essential including previous experience as a Permit to Work issuer/Writer with daily exposure during this time of lock out / tag out & permit to work systems in a similar industry.
  • Minimum level of Grade 12 education essential.
  • Certificate in Permit HSE or similar accordance to Permit Issuance.
  • Experience in heavy industry preferably within a mining environment including Power Generation / Boiler or Oil and Gas industries.
  • Computer literacy including working knowledge of Microsoft office and SAP desirable
  • Demonstrates personal responsibility for own health and safety and develops an understanding of the legal requirements standards and standard operating procedures relevant to direct work area.
  • Works well with others, listens actively, seeks inputs and asks clarification questions to check understanding staying focused and composed in a variety of work situations

Desirable criteria
  • Certificate in workplace training with practical supervisory and training experience desirable.
  • Current PNG Driver's license desirable.
  • Certificate in HSE desirable
  • PNG Power certification preferred desirable.

The Requirements
  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
