The Company:

Our client, Lihir Gold Limited operates one of the largest gold mines in Papua New Guinea 900kms north-east of Port Moresby on the tropical Niolam Island (Lihir Island). Lihir is a hard rock surface gold operation, ore is refractory and treated using pressure oxidation before the gold is recovered by a conventional leach process.

We are looking for someone who can:
  • Minimising equipment downtime, using industry best practice and knowledge of standards such as AS 1210, ASME BPV code, API 650, 653, ASME B31.3, AS 4100, API 570, API 571 to develop and implement asset integrity and inspection strategies for piping, tanks and pressure vessels for the Autoclave Area, Grinding and Tanks and Tails
  • Provide highly technical experience in pressure plant integrity and uses experience in API580/581 and AS3788 and fitness for purpose to API 579 , RBI and fitness for service techniques to develop repair scopes, and mitigate and highlight current and future risks and defects.
  • Maintains Temporary Repair registers and ensures plans are in place to execute permanent repairs
  • Responsible for the development of integrity management and inspection strategies for pressure systems, pipelines and tanks
  • Responsible for the review, assessment and update of integrity management and inspection data for pressure systems, pipelines and tanks
  • Organises and or conducts Fitness for service assessments for piping, tanks and pressure vessels
  • Ensure that any actions arising from inspection activities are fully reported and communicated with the maintenance superintendents, reliability superintendents and maintenance and reliability engineers
  • Perform effective review of inspection data, results trending and remnant life assessments, perform fitness-for-service assessments and provide recommendations for repair and replacement methodologies
  • Perform root cause analysis and failure investigation on systems and equipment, as required
  • Provide timely and accurate reports to the Reliability and Maintenance Superintendent as required, informing the Client of anomalies and recommend actions to be taken.
  • Act as focal point for corrosion management expertise and ensure that relevant reports and data are reviewed and communicated accordingly
  • Co-ordinate and participate in periodic plant and equipment history reviews in order to maximise plant availability
  • Co-ordinate and action results from associated failure investigations / significant anomalies
  • Analyse and monitor the corrosion condition of assigned facilities static plant and equipment to assure and verify that risks to the integrity of the plant and equipment are maintained to ALARP status



Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Relevant Bachelor Degree in Engineering
  • Ability to develop Risk Based Inspection Strategies
  • Ability to develop repair scopes for pressure vessels, and or provides guidance and advice to other engineers for to develop repair scope
  • Experience in providing effective technical advice to the inspectors and engineers, ensuring threats are evaluated, procedures are followed, and work is completed in accordance with the company technical procedures
  • Prove to be able to apply new techniques, technologies and use of specialist NDT contractor to limit intrusive inspection so to maximise inspection intervals

  • FIFO roster from Australia residence to Lihir, Papua New Guinea
  • Ability to provide/obtain valid police clearance
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment
