Role Purpose:

This role will report to the Mining Manager - Underground and will ensure the safe delivery of the underground related scope for the Red Chris Block Cave project

We are seeking an individual for a Fly In, Fly Out opportunity working on a two weeks in, two weeks out rotation.


Reporting to the Underground Mining Manager, responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Provide visible infield safety leadership to the underground project with a strong focus on behavioural safety, critical control management and process safety
  • Participate in underground incident investigations and drive improvement actions
  • Foster a culture on inclusivity and psychological safety within the Underground Block Cave team
  • Develop and support the Underground owner's team to continually improve the business and operational process - plan for succession and drive a high performance culture
  • Provide execution oversight (often in-field) and support to the underground development contractor and other contracting partners to ensure work is being completed safely to best practice standards, per Newcrest standards, and per the contract terms
  • Act as a technical representative in scope development, tendering, and recommendation to award for work packages relating to supporting the underground works
  • Assist with contract management of both the development contractor and all other underground specific contract works
  • Review and implement the medium term mine design and oversee its execution
  • Deliver effective, ongoing, site-based stakeholder engagement, to facilitate cooperation and alignment through strong relationship management between Red Chris Operations personnel, Project Delivery, Technology, and Technical Services
  • Assist in coordinating project support from other site areas including health & safety, site maintenance, site services, electrical, etc
  • Challenge assumptions and foster innovative thinking, to deliver the best outcomes for Newcrest and partners.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in the mining industry, in operating underground mines and projects under development/expansion
  • Preferable to have a Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering field, however extensive practical experience will be assessed in lieu of
  • Previous working experience with decline projects with international development methodology (exposure to Block Caving would be viewed as favourable, however is not prerequisite)
  • Solid understanding of operational, technical, and engineering components of projects
  • Team management experience
  • Strong experience with Northern Canadian mining projects/operations
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) upwards (to General Manager/Study Manager/Project Director) and to Operational and Technical levels
  • Experience interacting and communicating with local communities including First Nations
