Purpose of the Role:

The Electrical Lead will support the Newcrest Capital Project's group located at the Red Chris mine site and is accountable for providing input into the electrical design and propose modifications to project plans to ensure that all works comply with the basis of design, engineering design criteria specifications and standards.

Is responsible for facilitating cross departmental interface; acts as the point of contact for electrical discipline activities, project scoping, detailed design, project construction and close out. Will work closely with the project management team including project management, procurement, project controls and construction.

We are seeking an individual for a Fly In, Fly Out opportunity working on a two weeks in, two weeks out rotation.

Accountabilities:

Health & Safety

  • Ensures all partners, vendors, external parties are fully aware of industry, company and site safety processes and procedures; monitors the safety performance of contractor personnel and generates safety awareness in the contractor workforce.

  • Mentors and coaches other electrical engineers, contractors and graduates, including relevant on-the-job training & development and required performance management
  • Creates opportunities for personnel to gain experience and for knowledge transfer, as part of a succession planning process for key technical roles
  • Communicates effectively to ensure all personnel understand relevant deliverables
  • May be required to scope and manage specialist consultants in the delivery of aspects related to project studies.

Technical

Demonstrates technical and conceptual excellence in anticipating problems and supports the team and plans to deliver on agreed goals:
  • Drives continuous improvement with a focus on high technical standards to drive value and mitigate risk
  • Provides technical excellence and direction; manages assigned projects in accordance with sound electrical project engineering practices
  • Executing the technical aspects of the work in accordance with the requirements of the project basis, and service cost estimate set out in the contract services cost estimate, contract, scope of facilities, quantity tracking and the PEP.
  • Identifying and enforcing Engineering Contractor compliance of applicable Newcrest Site Standards and practices.
  • Makes electrical design decisions for projects and decisions relating to materials and equipment selection
  • Oversees, reviews and monitors related activities adhering to schedules, addresses technical challenges that may be experienced during implementation
  • Expert knowledge of Canadian Electric Code and CSA M421 Use of Electricity in Mines
  • Optimizes electrical performance by providing sound asset management, reliability, project engineering and work management advice
  • Ensures that all reports are completed accurately
  • Ensure effective knowledge and data management
  • Assist to establish and maintain effective guidelines for the Electrical Discipline by engaging with Newcrest Global and Red Chris Mine Site team members
  • Assist by providing technical audits/reviews and advice as required
  • Accountable for keeping abreast of both external and internal development in electrical engineering and underground mining in general.
  • Implementing the project change management procedures proactively
  • Ensuring timely response to Engineering Contractor RFIs to meet the contract turnaround

Qualifications & Experience:

Required and Desired Qualifications:

• P.Eng certification in British Columbia (or transfer from another Canadian province) essential.
• Degree in a electrical engineering with relevant qualifications fit for a lead position
• A minimum of 5-10 years of supervisory experience in a large-scale operation
• Strong project management skills developed over at least 15 years of practical and project experience
• Knowledge and experience in the mining industry
• Effective problem-solving skills with a results-oriented approach
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and latest design software e.g.: 3D - CAD software
• Prior experience using the Aconex Document Management system would be an asset.
• Prior experience using SAP would be an asset
• Experience working at a remote work site is considered an asset
