We offer several designated marshalling points within BC including Nanaimo, Vancouver, Kelowna, Kamloops, Williams Lake, Prince George, Smithers, and Calgary, AB.

Purpose of the Role:

Executes safe, efficient and cost-effective expansions and construction projects, including the design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and close-out of all capital projects across the mine site. Is accountable for providing leadership and direction ensuring behaviours, standards and frameworks are developed and maintained in a business focused, high performance culture, in alignment with Newcrest culture and values. Is responsible for ensuring all projects are executed in accordance with all applicable regulations and code requirements.

We are seeking an individual for a Fly In, Fly Out opportunity working on a two weeks in, two weeks out rotation.

Accountabilities:

Health & Safety

Demonstrates absolute commitment and leadership in providing a safe and healthy working environment:
  • Champions the Safety Management System ensuring a safety-first work culture
  • Provides oversite on safety and environmental management and leadership on all projects with a strong focus on safety culture
  • Evaluates and ensures standards, frameworks and behaviours are aligned to a culture of minimizing employee risk and harm
  • Executes full authority to stop any construction activity deemed to be unsafe or deemed to likely have an environmental impact if not adequately managed
  • Leads by example, sets the minimum expectations for safety standards and performance, and drives safety culture to ensure all stakeholders recognise safety as their first priority
  • Evaluates practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and provides guidance and direction to ensure absolute compliance to all regulations, laws, policies, procedures & standards
  • Ensures all projects are executed in accordance with all health, safety and environmental regulations
  • Ensures zero tolerance for non-compliance
  • Participates in site safety initiatives and acts as an advocate for NewSafe behaviours

Technical

Demonstrates technical and conceptual excellence in anticipating problems, supports the team and strives to deliver agreed departmental and business goals to ensure the value of the business is maintained or improved:
  • Provides project management oversight for the initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control and closure of major capital projects
  • Leads the capital projects team in the completion of data gathering, engineering studies and the procurement/contractor tendering needed to execute projects
  • Monitors and reports on project progress, highlighting variances, and identifying corrective actions
  • Manages multiple construction projects at one time, while monitoring and reporting on daily construction productivity
  • Monitors capital project performance to ensure project is safely delivered within scope, cost and schedule objectives
  • Effectively manages procurement processes to ensure goods meet specification, are delivered on time and are within budget
  • Displays effective management of inter-discipline interfaces, setting clear objectives to the project delivery team, capital projects, third-party contractors, Mine Operations personnel and Technical Services
  • Oversees all permitting, ensuring completion and adherence to federal, provincial and regional authorities and internal Newcrest regulations

Qualifications & Experience:

Required and Desired Qualifications:
  • Post-graduate degree in project management, construction mining or engineering
  • Minimum of ten years of leadership experience in general or heavy industrial project management or construction
  • Experience in supervising construction projects (earthworks and structural)
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and construction documents
  • Knowledge of and experience in the mining industry in ( Remote Canadian or Northern BC locations )
  • Effective problem-solving skills with a results-oriented approach
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and latest mining software
  • Experience working at a remote work site is considered an asset
