Purpose of the Role:

The core purpose of this role is to provide site-based technical and project management support to the Block Cave Project in the areas of mine services, mine infrastructure, raisebore programs, and other miscellaneous projects as required.

We are seeking an individual for a Fly In, Fly Out opportunity working on a two weeks in, two weeks out rotation.


  • Manage or support the engineering/design, procurement/tendering, and execution of various projects required to support Block Cave construction including, but not limited to:
    • Raisebore programs and support infrastructure;
    • Conveyor decline box cut & portal;
    • Underground mine services (dewatering, raw water, electrical, compressed air, communications, etc);
    • Underground ventilation system; o Explosives storage facilities
  • Lead the technical aspects of scope development, tendering, and award recommendation of various work packages to support the Block Cave Project.
  • Assist in coordinating project support from other site areas including health & safety, site maintenance, site services, electrical, etc.
  • Assist in managing contractors and consultants including in-field presence, reviewing invoices, and supporting contract variations.
  • Interface with studies team and surface construction team to ensure design basis for project infrastructure meets future anticipated needs of the Block Cave when appropriate.
  • Perform cost/schedule estimates and perform financial trade-off analysis relating to mine projects and services.
  • Provide visible infield safety leadership to the underground project with a strong focus on behavioural safety, critical control management, and process safety.
  • Challenge assumptions and foster innovative thinking, to deliver the best outcomes for Newcrest and partners.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in mining, civil, geotechnical, mechanical or related engineering field, or equivalent degree in a relevant field.
  • 5-10 years of experience supporting or managing projects in operating underground mines and/or projects under development/expansion.
  • Strong background in mine services, design, scheduling, QAQC, and contractor management.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management required.
  • Experience with Deswik mine planning software preferred.
  • Previous working experience with block caving method a plus.
  • Experience with Northern Canadian mining projects/operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) upwards (to Mine Superintendent/Manager Mining) and to operational and technical levels.
  • Professional Engineer designation in BC or the ability to achieve this.
  • Business improvement project experience necessary, in a mining environment is preferred.
  • SAP or Aconex experience considered an asset.
