The Company:

Our client, Lihir Gold Limited operates one of the largest gold mines in Papua New Guinea 900kms northeast of Port Moresby on the tropical Niolam Island (Lihir Island). Lihir is a hard rock surface gold operation, ore is refractory and treated using pressure oxidation before the gold is recovered by a conventional leach process.

The Role:

We are seeking for a Senior Engineer - Electrical to provide expertise to the Fixed Plant Maintenance Electrical Team.

This role will be required to support and improve maintenance on plant equipment, address shortfalls in equipment performance, assist with the development of maintenance strategies, and identify areas for improvement by initiating and managing small improvement projects within the Maintenance Team.

Other key accountabilities include:
  • Demonstrating personal responsibility for own health and safety whilst setting the clear expectation of relevant legal obligations, safe workplace practices, and HSE operating practices to others, holding them accountable for their actions.
  • Developing mid to long-term departmental plans, changes, and initiatives to achieve overall business goals.
  • Reviewing departmental financial data and results to assess performance and identify opportunities for maximizing results.
  • Developing team members through regular feedback, coaching, and formal training.

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience (essential)
  • Tertiary qualified Bachelor in Electrical Engineering (essential)
  • Postgraduate studies in the Assessment Management field (desirable)
  • Certificate in Workplace Assessment and Training or similar (desirable)

The ideal candidate must have a working knowledge of:
  • Fixed plant maintenance.
  • Electrical Distribution, HV, and Control Systems.
  • Reliability plans and engineering methods to address shortfalls in equipment performance including failure investigations and maintenance strategies development.
  • QA for manufacture and rebuild, FFP and RAM studies for new equipment, etc.
  • Actively seeking cost reduction opportunities.
  • Advanced use of various company and department systems including SAP.

Mobilisation Requirements:
  • This is a FIFO role.
  • Ability to provide/obtain valid police clearance within the last six months.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
