The Role

We are seeking an experienced Technician-Processing for a FIFO position on Lihir Island, PNG. Reporting to the Supervisor-Processing within the PRC Process Services section, the successful incumbent will be responsible to operate processing plant equipment safely including lime slaking, reagent mixing, mill relining & housekeeping equipment that support the Processing department to achieve production targets as directed by the Supervisor. The role will have responsibility to:
  • Ensures personal and team compliance with all company HSE requirements & policies including Fitness for Work.
  • Completes any HSE tasks only if the hazards and any potential consequences are understood and any corrections are firstly agreed by the relevant Supervisor.
  • Works constructively with a diverse group of people.
  • Delivers consistently on commitments and takes accountability for own development.
  • Carries out daily Housekeeping tasks, Mill Relining tasks and general works as directed by immediate Supervisor in the process areas of Crushing, Grinding, Pressure Oxidation, CIL, and Tailings and ensures that all safe working procedures are observed.
  • Ensures all works for the shift (inspections, identifying defects, system verifications, routine schedules, SOP's etc.) are completed within all safety, environmental and company compliance processes and guidelines.
  • Operates process plant equipment as directed completing Daily Plans & Work Inspections advising immediate Supervisor of the need for Work Notifications for any defects or hazards found in the area.
  • As directed, undertakes regular inspections of all plant areas of responsibility.
  • Participates in skills training, shift handover communications, toolbox meetings and any other activities as required by the Supervisor.
  • Actively seeks cost reduction opportunities and identifies & reports any cost wastage within designated area.

Essential criteria
  • Bachelor's in applied chemistry, Mineral Processing or Relevant Trade Certificate essential,
  • 3 - 5 years relevant work experience essential in heavy industry preferably within a mining environment; either through experience in a similar operation or through progression as an NML Trainee Operator.
  • Certificate 3 in Resource Processing essential.
  • Grade 10 Certificate essential
  • PNG Driver's Licence - Class 6 essential.
  • Working at Heights Certification essential.
  • Confined Space Entry Certification essential.
  • Good verbal & written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously from time to time.
  • High attention to detail with good time management skills.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills.

Desirable criteria
  • Certificates or statements of attainment in relevant metalliferous processing competencies highly desirable
  • Forklift operation Certification desirable.
  • Bobcat operation Certification desirable.
  • OHC operation Certification desirable.
  • Confined Space Controller Certification desirable.
  • Oxy cutting Certification desirable.
  • Dogging Certification desirable.

The Requirements
  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
